New owner of a 1999 Valkyrie Standard. Some things I am looking at adding are a lift adapter and possibly a center stand. I am looking at the Pro-Lift lift adapter listed on Ebay. I would also like to find a Rivco center stand. I am not able to find any in stock. Anyone know where one of these could be had? Also I am looking at buying a lift. I am looking at a Strongway with a 1500 pound capacity that is sold by Northern Tool. Would this be a suitable lift for the Valkyrie? Comments welcomed. Thanks.

Welcome! Just looked up that Strongway lift, it's very similar to Harbor Freight and Craftsman lifts. Yep, it'll work. As far as the center stand, they're hard to find. If you are really patient you might, but I wouldn't count on it. I also saw a post where one of our members fabricated a beautiful one that was almost identical to the Rivco one. I don't know if he planned on producing more for sale.

You may want to investigate a little further before adding a center stand. It may interfere with the lift adapter. The lift adapter is more important in my opinion.
Also, the center stand requires a handle to grip onto. If you have an I/S, that maybe a problem.

I have the Rivco centerstand on my IS, was expensive but probably best money I spent, only second to the cruise control. The centerstand came with a grab handle but I never needed it. I do roll the rear tire upon a piece of 2x6, makes it almost effortless to raise the bike upon the stand. I use the stand for cleaning, repair (rear end service) I don't have a bike jack. Tire changing on the road is almost impossible, centerstand would make it some easier.

I don't know why a lift adapter is needed. I have been using a Larin lift since '98, I put a 1 3/4" x 3/4" x length of lift, piece of wood btwn the lift and the back end of the engine, none on the front. lifts perfectly level and stable. if doing front end work, remove the wood and the front lifts more than the rear. only strap it down depending on the work and how high the m/c is being lifted.

Everyone has his own opinion. Absolutely NO disrespect intended, but I have had my bike for over 10 years and never found the need for a lift adapter. I use the center stand every day and find it invaluable for maintenance and cleaning. I do all my own maintenance, including tire changes. Just think, if we agreed on everything, everyone would drive a blue Toyota Prius and would be unable to find his car in the parking lot. If you still want a center stand, you might post a wanted ad in the classified and keep a watch on ebay.

I got a centerstand years ago, the only time I've ever used a jack since then was to work on the front wheel. I use it mainly to service the rear end, don't need a lift to that if you have a centerstand.

But I love the center stand for cleaning the wheels.

Thanks for all of the information. I am not new to mechanics, but am new to mechanics on M/C. This may seem to be dumb question, but with so many things being made of aluminum and thin tubing, where do you place the m/c lift if you do not have a lift adapter?
Thanks again.

I wouldn`t do it without an adapter. With that said, I`ve been using one i made from scrap wood for years. I think there are dimensions for it in shoptalk. I`ll try to find a link. http://www.herberts.org/wayne/valk/lowtechlift.htmI made mine similiar to the one Ghost made, but i used 3/4" plywood instead of 1" board.

You can find a used Rivco stand somewhere around $400-$450.
Rivco puts your name on a list for if/when they do a run of stands. Usually in 2-4 years. Buy new, and you get the left grab rail handle to go along with it. $450 +
