My Y2K Tourer came with a cut down shield. It was a less than professional job and I've decided to replace it with one of the Clearview shields. They come in different heights, widths and tints. I used to be fine with the stock shield, but the closest they come to do that is a 1/2" shorter shield. Which is what I think I'll go for as far as height, I'll also go for the stock width.

I'm thinking I'll go for clear tint, but they also make a light grey tint, and I'm wondering about that.

Any suggestions regarding any of it?

A friend also gave me his old stock shield, as he replaced it with a batwing fairing. I could use it, but it is loaded with fine scratches. I have bought some Novus and might be able to repair it, but I haven't given it the treatment yet. Anyone have any experience with that?

Steve L

Thanks in advance for any input.

My bike is a 98 Tourer. I went with a tinted 2 inch shorter than stock with a vent.
Living in Michigan the weather can be a challenge so I wanted the vent and it helps when things get warm.
I'm 5'11 looking over the shield is nice but traveling in the rain is a bigger problem. With the stock shield I
could get behind the shield by ducking down the shorter Clearview and my height getting behind the shield
is hard to do I eat a lot of rain with prescription glasses. Wind noise is much louder I have speakers on the
bars I have to turn up the volume at highway speeds.
The tint really helps with oncoming headlight glare the shield being shorter I seldom look through it daytime.

I have a tourer and got a CV in stock height, tinted with the vent. I'm 5'10" and just look over it. Stock width is 1"wider than OEM. I also tilt the shield back a bit to reduce buffeting which slightly lowers the height. When I ordered the vent, I didn't want them to supply the vent mechanism. They cut the vent hole free. I had a discounted local source. It uses the same hardware as a wing shield.

Thanks Bone, I have a cut down shield on there now. It's been cut down about 1.5 inches. It isn't bad with wind, but at 5'10" and a stock seat I was happy with the OEM height.

I've read positive remarks on their web site regarding the tint. It's not much of  tint, and seems to get positive remarks, but I'm not sold on it yet. I haven't checked how much extra the tint costs. The $165 for a quality piece seems reasonable.

Thanks in advance for any input.

I have the three stage Novus kit and it can do wonders but not miracles.  Do not buff it in a circular pattern but in a horizontal or vertical pattern; it can make a bad shield usable or hide the majority of your scratches, but it won't look new.  I've always buffed by hand, if you have a polisher of some sort you may get better results.

Steve, they will make you any height you want, including OE.

The clear tint may help with bright light (sun or headlights), but I would not get anything darker (even though I rarely ride at night, I wouldn't want any tint beyond the clear at night).

I bought the Clearshield 2" taller and 1" wider. I also got the 15% tint
and the vent.  I'm Very Pleased with the result.  I'm almost 6'2" but only have 30" long legs so from the waist up I'm about 6'5".  With the stock height I had major buffeting to my helmet area. Now it is much more comfortable to ride.
The added wind resistance may have affected the top speed a little, but not
very much.   The 15% tint is not very noticeable at all. Unless you are specificallylooking to see if it is tinted, it looks clear.   The little bit of tint helps with the nighttime glare of oncoming headlights.
  Hope this helps.   Blessings, Brian

I have a CV shield on a 98 Tourer.  Got the tallest they had since I am 6'5" and the OEM shield left me with major buffeting.  Solved the buffeting problem.  It does impact top end a bit and is very noticeable when climbing up some of the mountains around here on windy days.  I got the vent and it helps, if only a bit.  I got the discount for an imperfect shield when they made it, but I would challenge anyone to find the imperfection if it wasn't pointed out.  They sure are sticklers for perfection.

Thanks for all the replies. I'm going to give them a call and order one. I know they are excellent quality. I have one of their tinted shields on my Harley Electraglide.

(please don't hate me, I'm not a bad person. Smiley )
