Figured I'd ask here for less biased answers. I can imagine all the "nothing is better than the original 1500 Valk" I would get asking on the 1500 or general board. You guys are already open to alternatives and are familiar with the 1800 platform.  I currently have a 97 standard converted to tourer and an '81 CB750C.  My first Valk was a 2000 Interstate and I miss it.  Eventually I will have another Interstate I had thought until I rode Flasks Goldwing around the block a couple months ago. Then I started looking at pricing. The high end of average pricing for an Interstate is about the same as the low end of average pricing on a 2005ish 'Wing. Unless I fall in a pile of money it's going to be years down the road before I can afford either but a man can dream.

The only issue I would be concerned about with the 2005 Wing is the heat.  Two of my cousins had a 2008 and they sold them because of the heat from the rads on warm days.  They loved the power and smoothness though.
Me, even with the heat issue I would go for the Wing.  I had an Interstate as well and as much as I loved it, it was getting old and was going to need a lot of repairs soon.  If you don't mind wrenching then I would get the Interstate.  I don't have time for that.

Why not look for a late 90s Goldwing? They are one of my favorite bikes and could be found with under 30k miles and in the $5000 range. In 06 I rode an 88 GL1500 AZ to NJ and back, 750-850 miles per day with 100% reliability, did not use a drop of oil in the whole 8000+ mile trip. I find the 1500's just as comphy as the 1800's. Being a little short legged I am able to mount the 1500 by stepping on the left peg to get my leg clean over the eat, can't do that on 1800's. So if your looking to save some $$ check out the GL1500's.

I do agree with Hubcap on the Motus!

I have a '98 Valk that I've put 80k miles on and I have 2007 Goldwing that I put 26k on in the last two years.  I also had a '97 Valk that I put quite a few miles on.

In the Texas heat, a windshield vent and Baker Air Wings pretty much equalize the hot factor, Wing vs Valk.


I've got lots of sentimental attachment to the Valk, but if I had to choose, the Wing wins.  Smoother, faster, more maneuverable, lots more creature comforts.

Are you a big dude?   If so sit on the wing. I feel cramped on the 2014 wing I drove.  H bars are way too close. I feel pee wee Herman.    Sit in it first.

                                 I had a 2004 VTX1300 and a 1998 1500 standard, sold them both when the 2014 valk came out,love the motor.   but also was missing having 2 bikes, so went looking. back in the mid 1970s i worked at a Honda BMW shop in colorado, and saw the first wings come out. i found a 1975 Red original GL1000 with only 18,000 miles on it, ya it needed carb work and some cooling tube o rings replaced but now i think i have the best of both worlds, my 2014 Valk set up for cross country trips, and just for day rides the GL is fun to ride. Plus the looks and comments i get are fun, the younger riders dont say much but us older ones and even many Harley riders look and say WOW nice clean bike, those Hondas just never die. and the best part was i only paid $1,000 for the GL plus $450 go through and now i have been told that because of its condition IF i ever wanted to sell it i could get around $5000, but not a chance it will stay in my garage next to the Valkyrie....... ride safe ALL......
