Old motorcycle magazines

  Just wondering
What have the rest of you done with your old motorcycle magazines 
I have a collection that goes back to the 70's of various biker magazines - at this point I see them as non-value added  they take up space in the garage and the basement 
I think I only looked back through some old issues a few times it's easier to look up the information on the internet 

I'm considering file 13 maybe only save back 5 years instead of 35 years !!! Any thoughts ? Suggestions ? Agree ? Disagree ? ect ect

I know I've purchased older mags with articles on the Valkyrie off ebay. Some people make pretty good money apparently marketing the older mags to people that may want one for when their bike came out. Have one on the 97 preview of the Valk and one for the 1st year of the Interstate as well. Just a thought, maybe you can make a little for more Bling. Dave

I have a bunch of 1972 era (and maybe some 1980ish era) Dirt Bike and Motocross Action
magazines... they're fun to look through, though I haven't set eyes on them in years at
this point... I wouldn't toss mine unless I had to...



This is issue #1, which I still have (the picture is from eBay, not mine)... it had a story in it about
a High School in California where they had a school sponsored motocross race... I used it as
president of my South Carolina school's (Wade Hampton High) motorcycle club to help us have
a school sponsored motocross race in a vacant field next to the school on "Derby Day", a day
set aside for school organizations to raise money for charity. My tm125's electronic ignition
went out the weekend before the race, in those days such a thing meant hauling the bike to
the Suzuki shop and leaving it for a few weeks while they ordered the part and found time to
do the work. I rode Matt ?'s CR125, but it was worn out, and just about choked down in every
turn... I also rode my neighbor Sean Day's tm125 in the wheelie contest - flipped it (first time
ever) in front of everyone I knew, from standing on the seat in 3rd or 4th gear... I remember trying
to run... I took one giant 10 or 15 foot stride, maybe a feeble attempt at another, then I was
cartwheeling... I could see the 125 cartwheeling beside me during part of each rotation...

Rowdy...I also had a lot of mags, sold a lot of them one-bay, mostly chopper and hot rod stuff. But you never know what someone is going to buy. It's such a PITA I started selling them in bunches instead of onw at a time. Sellem cheap and get a little cash for something your not needing anymore.

I'm with the rest of the responders. Several months ago I tossed a bunch of old mags. When it was too late I thought I should have put 'em on e-bay.

You could grab a scanner and put up a 'fan site library' on the older stuff, especially the out of print mags. That way your clutter becomes on-line clutter that helps others in their research.
www.htmlcomics.com is about the best library site I've ever found. A biker mag version would be cool!

I keep all my EasyRiders in a box upstairs. Just a few years worth. I don't subscribe anymore but do occasionally pick up 'In The Wind'. Plus it comes with a free calender to hang in the garage! 

I found a huge box of old newspapers that my grandma had in the garage a few years ago. Some dated back to the 50's and 60's. It was fun reading all about the stuff way before my time. Even had some pictures in them of my dad and uncle showing cattle in 4-h. I would read one then burn it. Took me a week to do it.

Last spring, I had a large number of car magazines dating back to 1960.  I sorted them by year and sold them on Ebay for between $6 and $25 per year.  I ended up clearing over $250.  It was a lot of monkey business packaging them, but as I went, I got a system down and it went pretty smooth.  I was getting guys buying up to three years worth to save on the shipping.  You would be surprised at what some people will pay for them.

Hmmm e-bay  -  I've been wanting to get my feet wet on e-bay

About a year ago I stumbled onto a roughly fifty year collection of National Geographic magazine thrown in the local  newspaper recycle bin.  Seemed almost criminal.  I went dumpster diving.  Dug out two dozen pristine condition mags ranging from the 'teens through about 1950.  Amazing reading material from a couple of bygone eras.  I'm an amateur history buff, so the material is important to me.  Back in the mid 60s I worked the pits of the desert races my brother participated in before motocross was invented.  The sample you show peaked my interest, only because I can remember the days.  Seems a shame to toss that stuff.  Perhaps a used book store would take them.   ???
