I changed the Verdestein Sport Trac out for the Champiro, and the difference is large. The Sport Track was my first CT and I thought it was OK even if I had to keep the pressure up it 42 for it to feel right, (wore out the center of the tread). While it worked good at speed, it never did feel really feel good to me in slow speed parking lot maneuvers. The Champiro just works better across the board at 37 or so PSI.. I'll play with the pressure and get it at it's best, but certainly a large difference which is more comfortable to me. I'm NOT going to say it feels more like a motorcycle tire, because I can't compare them side by side as I sold the spare wheel with the MC tire. I can't reliably say I remember what the MC tire felt like as I am now used to a CT and it has been awhile.

I think I had got 17k out of my Vredestein. To bad you can't get them anymore, man was it a good looking tire.
I am now running a Hankook Optimo which is same brand, and tire as the Champiro VP1. The Hankook does handle great. I now have just under 20k on the tire. I weigh 180 and ride solo. At 38 psi the center of the tire has worn more than the sides. I should have ran it at 34 psi to get the most life out of it.

Over inflating is a common D/S tire wear problem. I learn that with the first D/S I used. A Cooper. Ran it at 40psi and wore the center out in about 6,000 miles. Once you've run it pumped up for a couple of thousand miles the damage is already done.

I lowered the pressure in the Champiro to 33/34 and took it for a long cruise today,, if feels as good or better there than at the 37 I initially set it at. I will still experiment with it a bit to see what works best.
The Verdestein I took off had to be run at 42 or so for the first half of it's life for it to feel safe for me at low speeds, the second half of it's life I was able to lower that to 40 or so, still wore it excessively in the center. WHile I did like the way it looked, to me, the tire was a dud as far as using it for a motorcycle tire. I checked for lumps etc. to see if It had a flaw, but never found anything. The Champiro just works GOOD,,, it feels secure and easy at any speed. You can just wheel it around tightly at idle speeds in parking lots or gas stations, never could do that with comfort on the Verdestein.

Well, I never seem to get much mileage on a rear tire,, not on any of the bikes I have rode. But in this case I may have had a bad tire from the git go. If you look at the picture at the top of the page, you can see that the carcass looks lopsided,, now that picture seems to exaggerate it, but I just went out and examined it, and it is worn a bit differently from side to side. I know, without being blown up we cannot see what it looked like on the bike. The tire was mounted in the correct direction, and I used ceramic beads to balance it. Since I had static balanced the wheel and tire with weights, I only used about an ounce and a half of beads. Maybe that along with 42 psi caused the problems, maybe it was wound wrong from construction, but I never was happy with that tire. What I do know is the Champiro is an immense improvement.

Bill, how many miles on that GYTT ? I know some of the family do not like the GYTT. I bought one per JESS-VA when I went DS. Run 41 lbs in it per Jess. I have 15k on it and other than the shoulders are rounded a bit, which is a good thing,it looks practically new. I have nothing to compare with since this is my first DS. I do know the few times I have got caught in the rain, I mean gully washers, it slices water like a hot table knife through butter.

Now at 12,500 miles compared to about 7,500 to 8,000 on a Shinko Journey.
Tire has shown itself to be a good companion at peg scraping speed on the mountain roads and highway zooming and during a frog choker.

Hi Poncho, What size is the Champiro and did you have to remove the nut cage? I have 130k on my standard and gone through a lot of tires. I am ready to try the darkside. Thanks.
