It really wasn't at Yellowstone. It was up near Glacier NP in Kalispell I believe. As for the ones at Yellowstone, they have quakes everyday. I think I read like 20 or more per day. I haven't felt any in the last 3 yrs of me going there. Of course I really aint 'feeling' for any.

It was at Lincoln, about 30 miles NW of Helena.

One of the greatest quakes on earth was at Yellowstone millions of years ago. The area is ripe for another and the really smart fellas say it will happen again and when it does will pretty much destroy the western states and the world climate for a century.

It erupted 2.1 million years ago, 1.3 million years ago, and 630,000 years ago. Interval keeps getting shorter. It's actually overdue. If I recall correctly, the last one laid an 18" thick layer of ash over Nebraska and the ash layer extended down into Texas. When it happens, we're pretty screwed.

Yellowstone is one of the biggest "super-volcanoes" on the planet, and it typically erupts every 650,000 years or so ( and it's overdue). If / when it goes - you can kiss North America good bye, and the rest of the planet is going to have a severe climate change ( will put the phrase "Nuclear Winter" to the pale).
Edited - change my 650 Million to 650,000

I know it was probably meant tongue in cheek. But there are a lot of good people who would likely die in such an event. Many of them being women and children. (Rooting ?)

I am a big fan of the discovery, History, Nat Geo channels. They have played out the next eruption - worse case scenario of course for a number of years now. And even here in Ohio to the east coast will be covered in deep ash. No matter what life will change for those who survive. I think I should start watching the prepper shows and then decide Canada or Mexico to bug out to.

If their scenario's are correct, you'll need a lot of "prep" to last the 20 plus years of winter. Just saying. Not sure I want to be around to see it.

I know Rob (meathead), and he has a great sense of humor. He's also a compassionate, caring, unassuming, unpretentious, honest, hard working and humble human being!
As for these wizards of smart scientist, they preach apocalyptic global warming, but forget or ignore that they also claim that the Ice Ages were created by catastrophic events like ancient Yellowstone. No matter what they think, teach or preach, the climate and these volcanic events are in the hands and providence of our Creator. .....my2cents, rick

I believe I stated that to begin with. Let me explain my response a little. There seems to be numerous posts about how terrible California is and how many would like it to fall off in an earthquake. One day there will be a earthquake that will probably kill many. Hopefully it won't fall off the continent. There are many good people, places in California. I was just trying to remind some of that. As to the need of a BJ, I have been requesting them to little avail. I hope you are luckier in that regard than I. Rick, thanks for the kind words. I fear you give me more credit than I deserve.

Ok, as to California. We need to determine when the great quake will occur. Fortify all buildings and roads except for the actual section that will fall off into the ocean. We immediately relocate Hollywood there and increase the property values to ridiculous amounts so every snob in the country buys into the place.
Then let'er rip.

From the time that I was a small child I can remember people predicting that California would fall into the pacific Ocean someday. Speaking strictly as a Southerner who holds some pretty conservative views, on the surface that doesn't sound like a bad thing. I don't really wish for thousands of people to lose their lives. I do hope that if it does happen anytime in the foreseeable future that Nancy Pelosi is at home.

A word about California, often only identified by many with Elitist Hollywood or the Freaks in San Francisco and certainly as an enclave for Socialist. In spite of this destructive path the socialist politicians pursue, California is still the eighth largest economy in the World, after a 17% decline in 2014, and the the largest agriculture economy in the U.S.... California produces one third of the vegetables in the U.S., and two thirds of all the fruits and nuts. The top 8 agriculture products in California of the 400, each of the eight produce revenues into the billions of dollars, many produce multiple billions, and the other two in the top ten, are just under 1 billion. Yes, the California State Government has been taken over by the progressive socialists politicians, like many States with large population cities, who seem hell bent to destroy the golden goose, or the Golden State, they govern, with their lofty, and untenable socialist policies.....my2cents, rick

Yes we do, thanks Rob. California is a very diverse geographic State, great for year round riding on our Valkyries. We have the magnificent Sierra Nevada Mountain Range and the southern end of the Cascade Mountain Range with the Sierra Nevada Range having the highest elevation in the Continental U.S., and Death Valley with the lowest elevation in the U.S., both within easy riding distance from each other. And the beautiful Pacific Ocean stretching from Mexico to Oregon, just to mention a couple from the many.

Fruits Nuts and Vegatables make up the vast majority of the regressives in Cali' unfortunately, with most of the destructive mold and mildew spores spreading out of Hollywood. Conservative minded people there are intimidated into silence for the most part... or fired for their views...just ask Tim Allen

I live in Los Angeles and have done Emergency Management/Disaster relief professionally for the last 20 years. Although the San Andreas is overdue for a catastrophic quake, there is absolutely zero chance of CA breaking off and floating away. The most likely scenario is a 7.8 quake lasting for about 1-2 minutes. 1-2 minutes is a REALLY long time to shake that hard. Infrastructure will be destroyed. Water, gas and electricity will be down for months. Widespread fires and civil unrest are guaranteed. The county of Los Angeles alone is home to 11 million people. Its going to be very rough. The relief effort will last for years, thousands will die. The world economy will be impacted. But we aren't falling in the ocean. That part is nonsense. I know that some here hate California. I'm ok with that. Especially during winter when I can ride to the beach for a swim while y'all are shoveling snow. Ride Safe, Alien

Ride Safe, Alien I just had to read this whole thread..... and add this comment ...thought you were selling the bike, we still shovel but your're not riding to the beach. Enjoyed meeting you at Inzane Michael
