I was out riding the other day and saw this small piece of foam rubber flapping about the steering neck area, behind the right radiator pod. Its about 2" x 4 1/2" and about 1/8 thick. I never noticed it until it started flapping. I took it off before it flew away. It was held by a bit of adhesive. Anyone have any ideas where this goes, or if its needed?
TIA

Your image didn't link up in your post.  That happens sometimes.

I have had the plastic off of my Valkyrie a number of times and don't remember a piece of foam like you describe.  I also can't remember seeing such when I had the tank off while installing my cruise control.

I scanned the parts diagrams and there is no "call out" for a piece of foam like that.

I'm drawing a blank....but I do that sometimes so don't take it as the definitive word.

Oops!  Have you installed a Honda windscreen at some point?  The touring screen uses two pieces of foam, but they fit behind the chrome pieces that align vertically on the windshield, and they are the same shape as those chrome pieces (no adhesive, either).  I'm not sure how the "shorty" attaches.

Of all the work I have done on the bike I dont remember a foam pad like you talk about going anywhere on the bike. I guess it could come out of the radiator area its about the right dimensions, next time I take the pods off I will take a look.

Thanks for the comments guys. I also looked at the parts diagrams and didn't see anything like it. The foam was stuck at the area where the emission tag is on the steering neck. It may have been covering that tag, I'm not sure. I'll just put it in my stash area and if I ever find out that I need it, I'm sure I'll have forgotten where I put it.  Grin
Thanks Again

May be some left over shipping stuff that wasn't removed at prep, if it ever was prepped.  Smiley
