Good info Gary BTW, (regarding relevance) there was an operation "Valkyrie" in WWII. Oh, and another BTW, the Piper Cherokee P-235 is a 4 passenger, naturally aspirated aircraft (of which I used to own and fly) with a 6 cylinder, horizontally opposed engine! .. Coincidence? I think not!

I'm heading up to the National Air Force Museum in Dayton, Ohio tomorrow to spend the entire day looking at all the airplanes, jets and experimental craft on display while my wife is at her convention in Cincinnati. They have an XB-70 Valkyrie on display and a Valkyrie cafe there.
You may begin drooling now.

Cool place, I live about 30 minutes away and have only been there once - always said I would go back, but just never made it.

Cool.
What's the story on the Cushman? Did you happen to get a close up of the plaque next to it or do you remember what it said.
Just curious as to it's significance...

Tom - the plaque says "in the late stages of the war in Europe Allied paratroopers used scooters like this one to maintain contact between units, increase their mobility and haul small loads. The Cushman Motor Works designed the model 53 Airborne scooter to be air dropped by Parachute or carried by glider and it had a hitch to pull a model M3A4 general purpose utility cart. By adding certain equipment the cart could be converted to carry a 30 caliber or 50 caliber machine gun or an 81mm mortar though the scooter could offen not pull a heavy load. The M3A4 cart on display has original hand ropes for manual Towing by up to 4 men. Cushman made nearly 5,000 Airborne scooters for the military beginning in 1944. The rugged, simple model 53 could travel through a foot of water, climb a 25% grade, and had a range of about 100 Mi. This Cushman scooter and handcart were donated to the museum in 2003. Technical notes engine Cushman one cylinder 16 M 71 of 4.6 horsepower, maximum speed 40 miles an hour, weight 255 lbs" Here's the link to it from their website: http://www.nationalmuseum.af.mil/Visit/Museum-Exhibits/Fact-Sheets/Display/Article/196149/cushman-airborne-scooter/
