Hey guys....2000 interstate. When I'm riding & when bike is parked in garage, getting raw gas smell. Pretty bad going down the road. Anyway I stuck my nose down by the filler & you can smell gas pretty strong. Did not see any replacement rubber seals online. Anyone know where I can get a new rubber gasket?
Thanks.  Fotoman

Either that or stock fuel petcock may be leaking thru or as my Brother stated in another post if fuel and vacuum lines are original the might could be junk. Stand behind your bike while it adles and if the exhaust smells gas rich i'd be havin a look see at the petcock. Cover set-petcock rebuild kit-not that much moola. RIDE SAFE.

Rebuilt petcock 1 1/2 years ago...it's good. Not seeing any leakage around carbs. Had those re-worked 3 yrs ago, by a honda "tech" (questionable). Got it home & had to take tank off, he did not hook up  sending unit, 1/8" vent line & chrome knob to turn gas valve was stripped.  Never taking it back to dealer. Always get a half a$$ job.

I have the same issue with my interstate, in fact its gotten so bad the paint has started to bubble around the filler cap under the tank bib. Some guys use an o-ring on the gas cap. That seems to work most if the time. I went as far as taking off the tank and inverted it, just to make sure. For me it's too late I have to take the tank off and get it repainted.

Thanks, I'll give the o ring a try....just wanted to make sure it wasn't leaking somewhere under the tank on the engine. Dont particularly like the flaming crotch  hazard

Use Silicone and soak the gas cap rubber parts. It will cause them to swell and help seal.

One thing to check is the clamps on the carbs and intakes.. they can loosen up with time and you will get a fuel smell.. also some rough running....I do mine once a year and at least one of them always seems to be loose....

I had the same problem on my interstate and it turned out to be a kinked vent tube.

Okay...how is an O-ring used.  I installed a Talisman Tank Bib and now have a raw gas smell when turning or accelerating from stop/braking.
Also...so there is no replacement rubber for the filler cap???

Every time I read one of these gas cap threads I go out and apply some silicone lube to that rubber gasket on the cap. Good reminder...thanks. Smiley
