OUTSTANDING cooldude Finally set some time aside to install unit. Easy install, works exactly as described. (Did add a section to the go between wire). Can't give accurate install time do to Smart Switch install, speaker upgrade and brass insert repairs. Makes a nice addition. Thanks for a neat design.

Ok gang.  Bugs out of the first Standard/Tourer version.  Steve said he's going to send one more for Keith (Farside)

If that one goes without a hitch then we will all get the other ones we ordered as he gets them wired up

Good stuff cooldude

Here is my update on the Signal Enhancer.
Install on my 01 Interstate was easy, really liked the simplicity of plug and play wiring. The first one I received had a bug, and didn't work properly, sent it back and had another unit in a few days.
The first time I used the springs that go into the turn signal switch, I didn't like the way you had to put so much pressure on the switch to turn on the functions of the enhancer, so when I installed the second unit I used the foam, much easier to operate the turn signal switch. What else can you say, I have 4 way flashers, escort mode flashers and self canceling turn signals all operational from the same switch. Takes about 15 to 20 minutes tops to install on an interstate, no splicing or cutting wires, great product.
Thanks Jersey (Steve)

Just want to remind everyone who has the SigEnhancer that the AutoCancel timer can be reset (approx 7 secs) by EITHER
1. re-push the turn switch in the same direction
2. Turn on the Brake Light (Hand or Foot)

The purpose is to allow the rider to extend the AutoCancel feature depending on the riding situation.  If your at a light, you're likely going to have the brake on.  If your planning a lane change, then use the turn switch option if you need to extend the time.

I'm currently working on including a third function based on the "neutral" light, which will suspend the AutoCancel as long as you're in neutral, which is also done while sitting at a red light waiting to turn.

STILL LOOKING FOR BETA TESTERS!!!!!  If you're interested email me at SigEnhancer@gmail.com

Thanks again to all the Testers.  Not only have you given fantastic feedback, it's been great chatting with fellow Valk owners!

Here is my report, the unit it self works flawlessly, I did have problems with both the springs and the foam.  I tried the springs first and found them two stiff, took too much leverage to get the signal to go on.  I then tried the foam but that did not last for me.  After a day of riding it compressed and negated the spring action.  I'm not sure if some grease caused the failure but I tried a second time with a little different foam and again that lasted about a day.  I finally took some small conical springs from an old remote control I had laying around.  I unwound the springs a little so they would collapse on them selves better then trimmed the ends so they weren't too long or too stiff and that has been working flawlessly for a week now.  When I get time I'll supply Jersey with some picks and measurements of the springs.
So far I love the unit.

Great Feedback Ramie.  I'm working on finding springs with slightly less 'spring' in them.  Also looking for a better closed-cell foam to use.

Really glad it's working.  Please let us know how the Functionality is doing, especially the timing on the Autocancel of the turn signals.

beta tester coolsmiley am I.  Ok I received mine in plenty of time before the weekend.  Was a bit more wires than I thought there would be. hooked up easy enough. had to email about a couple of wires that had not been addressed in directions. I was informed after things not working just right right away. that I had the first of a new setup that doesn't cancel blinkers if in neutral. after Steve finally remembered to ask about this fact all was well.. I have only gone for a small ride to gas station and back but... I love this auto off blinker!!!! this item works as promised. I tried all the functions multiple times. every time was flawless. install was very simple. the springs inside the switch housing is the hard part.  but easy. you might want to try tweezers not needle nose pliers like I did. I hope to impress some of my friends with my new toy lol. thanks for the wonderful product Steve and good luck.

Beta tester on I/S here. After some initial clarification regarding the instructions, I found that install went well. I first tried the springs and found that I had no turn signals or flashers. I then went to the foam pieces. With these I found that things would work--some of the time. However the foam collapsed quickly and quit working. After emailing Steve, he suggested clipping a small amount off the springs and then reinserting them.

After doing that I found that it all works, and works well. I do have to push harder on the lever than I thought I might need to. (This leads me to believe that my attempts with the springs at first were unsuccessful because I just wasn't pushing hard enough.)

Steve told me that he is looking at new springs and will try to replace where necessary.

This is a really well built system that does exactly what it says it will. As others have suggested, the wire that reaches from one side of the fairing to the other could be longer; too much tension causing the factory cluster of connections to sit poorly and not protected by the rubber boot. (I'll add an extension to mine).

Now I just need to break the habit of turning the signal off. Not as easy as one might think after 40+ years of riding.

System works great. Came in real handy again in the Blue Ridge when caught in fog wind and rain.  Springs and foam are still a problem. I was gone for two weeks and had to change foam out each week, took extra with. I am also trying to find a spring solution. We can of course cut the springs as has been mentioned but a plug and play kit will need a proper spring solution or directions for cutting springs so switches are not damaged by over stressing. I like mine regardless of this very minor problem.

Just a note to all Beta Testers (and those watching this thread).

What a great group of guys who stepped up and the reason why Beta Testing is so very important.  Many perspectives help make sure things aren't missed.  I've asked each one to provide their honest opinion and experience trying my new product.  REALLY APPRECIATE ALL THAT EACH HAVE SAID!!

The main challenge that's come out of this so far is the spring setup in the turn switch.  In short, the OEM turn switch is a latching style, but for my product needs to be converted to a 'momentary' style... thus the need for the spring/foam inserts.  As a result of the great feedback, I've recently tested a number of springs and think I found the right ones.  They've been ordered and once they arrive I'll test them on my bike just to make sure and then will ship them out to everyone.

So far, I think the feedback has been unanimous that this is a simple yet very effective upgrade to the stock standard left/right turn signals found on so many MCs.

ok it has been a little while since I installed mine. I have the standard. i'm using the springs not the foam. everything is going great with it. yes it seams to need a little bit extra force to engage the flashers. not the blinkers though. probably just do to the fact it has to be held on for a couple of seconds. yes- to get out of the habit of turning the blinkers off is a bit of a challenge. when I catch myself I just grin  2funny. just want everyone to know this thing is awesome. changing lanes on a busy express way, around town or just in the sub is just so nice to hit the switch, and not worry about it any more. brings a smile every time I look down and no blinker flashing. the gods must of heard my wishes this summer. after being elected to lead a small group of us on a ride this past summer. at one of the stops I was given grief. seems I had left my blinker on too long for a couple of the Harley guys. they just happen to be next to and behind me.NO MORE Grin

I'm using springs I pulled out of an old remote control I had lying around.  They were a little thinner then the ones you sent and I unwound them a little and trimmed them so they we not so stiff.

Can they be made to have a self canceling feature too. Something like a variable timer.

I'm adding a basic timer feature as suggested by a few folks.  Pleas PM me if you're interested.

Can you tell me how the timer works. Is it a set time or does it vary depending if you are turning at a light vs changing lanes

RGM,

The timing is reconfigurable by the rider and can be changed while riding.  This allows each rider to set (or change) the time that works best for their riding style.  However, there are other factors that impact the autocancel function beyond just a timer, such as, brakes and being in neutral.  These further extend the autocancel function.  For example, while at a light if you're either in neutral (except for I/S) or have the brake engaged the autocancel is suspended until both are no longer occurring.  Whereas, with lane changing the autocancel time can be manually extended by Re-Pressing the turn switch in the same direction.  I've been experimenting with this and have found myself changing the timing depending  on whether I'm out in the country on the weekends or commuting in the city during the week.  I tend to vary between 4 and 6.5 seconds.

Does that help?

Ramie, et all,

I'll be sending out an email to all Beta Testers on where things are at.  Just trying to keep the business stuff off line from the Forum out of respect to the owners and users.

Regarding the functions, as a result of the input from all the Beta Testers there have been incremental changes to the software and hardware along the way.  Don't worry I've gotcha covered, just takes time this being a single person startup operation.

BT's - look for my email during the next week.

STILL ACCEPTING BETA TESTERS.

While I'm coming close to the end of the planned Beta Testing Period, I'm still taking participants.  If you're interested, please email me at SigEnhancer@gmail.com and we'll handle the business end of stuff.

If you're not sure of this add-on, I suggest chatting with those here who have it.  Get their opinion on how it works, ease of installation, etc.  Their feedback has been instrumental to me... maybe you'll find their perspective useful as well.

Cheers and ride safely,
Jersey

Finished the installation of the SigEnhancer on my 2000 Interstate today after a couple of stumbling blocks that were all due to my ignorance. Jersey walked me through the difficulties my ignorance of electrical terminology caused and got me back on the path to success with a couple pictures & phone calls. After talking to Jersey I could do a 2nd installation in 30 minutes or less. It works flawlessly. I really like the ability to set the duration of the turn signal cancellation timer. This is or now was the first bike I've had in 45 years that didn't have auto-cancelling turn signals. I just came back from a night ride. The hazard lights really make you visible when needed. This thing is awesome. Great job Jersey!!

I sent in my prototype and received and installed latest version. If this gets any better I might have to buy another Valk.  This product is a real plus and makes the bike safer. The last thing you want to do is indicate a turn that you are not going to make; confusing an already confused motorist.

I just installed my Enhancer; went in well, and works perfectly. The only issue I had is because I also have a SmartSwitch and HID bulb wiring in that bucket, so I had to shift the wires around some to get the headlamp back in.

IMO, we've needed this for quite some time, if only for safety reasons.

After finishing the install last weekend, finally had the time to take a ride and check it out. What a great add-on!!!
Works great! I used the springs but might try the foam inserts to see what difference there may be.

If anyone is on the fence about this.....do it!

Hi,

Yes the SignalBoss (new name) will work with both incandescent and/or LEDs without any other mods.  Feel free to email me if you're interested so we can take the business stuff off the forum.

Jersey, will the signal boss work with the addition of added incandescent bulbs (turn signals) on a pull behind trailer? I also did Chet's 4-way flasher mod from the tech page. Would I need to change that back again to original? Thank you.

To your first question.  The SignalBoss can handle the normal loads of the MC lights.  However, you'd need to supply a separate Trailer power supply to be safe.  Any of the usual ones provide their own power for the trailer lights and use the onboard signal just to trigger the same appropriate lighting.

As far as Chet's, I'd have to take a look and see if there would be a power supply conflict.  Let me get back to you on that.

Hmm, Thank you Jersey. I actually do have a Hopkins converter kit on the bike that feeds the trailer lights direct from the bike battery that is triggered by the bikes turn signal circuit. Sounds like I am good there. As far as Chet's mod, I have a turn signal flasher that is energized by a switch fed by the bike battery that when turned on feeds the bikes turn signal circuits. Thanks for running this down. I like the signal cancel option, Jaybird.
