Odometer memory

If the speedo cluster is changed out does it change odometer to new speedo numbers or is mileage memory retained in bike cpu?

If it's an interstate the speedo memory is retained in a chip on the speedometer motherboard cluster itself. Changing the speedometer will show the donor's bike odometer.

It can be reset  to zero if so desired I have seen it done. Dont ask me how cuz I dont know but have seen a 2001 that was rebuilt and speedo only

There are computer programs that when hooked up to the device will reset an automobile odometer. You can look it up on U tube. I purchased a speedo in the classified section here, because my trip odometer option was not working. But I found out the PO for some reason had the rubber plunger in the center of the cluster backwards. When I installed the spare speedo the odometer had triple what mine has. That's when I noticed the rubber plunger on his. Now all is good with my trip odometer too.
