Rear Wheel...

Just want to say thanks to all that helped me when I changed my Rear Tire on my 99CT...Had Tire put on rim by dealer ($30)...the rest I did...and I am glad I did it...I found NO grease on Spline gears (rust)...which took me a lot of time to get it all off...the gears were not hurt...I decided to remove the pumpkin and drive shaft to see what other surprises I was in for...there was good grease and no problems but I changed the oil seal on the shaft anyway...All new O-rings and dust seals...new pumpkin oil...shock inserts...It was quite a project for me...had a hard time getting the rear wheel on the gears, but after about a half hour of do and do again, I got it...used the proper tightening sequence...Took her out for a test ride...all seems well...It took me a week...I took my time...tore a muscle last Saturday in my back at a Church function celebrating Pioneer Day when the Mormons entered Salt Lake Valley...caused a lot of pain...but I think doing all of it myself kind of helped me with my back...Thanks to all...Great site...Great advice...Ride safe...I learned a lot...!!!

Now you KNOW it are done and done CORRECTAMUNDO!  And when ya take it apart again in 10000 miles Will look as good as when you greased it this time. RIDE SAFGE.

It is best to do your on work so as to learn about your machine. Order the manual and research with us and you will be able to do most anything you want. Cleaning the bike is one of the best ways to find a problem, loose bolt or what ever, and then repair so you don't end up on the side of the road. Will also help you diagnose and maybe get yourself back on the road. Good job!

  I use a 5/8 or 3/4 diameter bar put in from the left side after I lift the tire in place. I do not try to put in the caliper bracket of spacer at this time. I am free to engage the final drive gear and hold the tire assembly to the right. I then start pushing the axle thru. When it starts thru the hub , I put in the spacer and bracket. It works well for me.
