I am pulling my Valk (standard not IS) apart for rebuilding / re-chroming. The inside of the shell headlamp shell is pretty bad. I have removed it from the bike but the indicator lights are still in place on their short wiring loom. The rubbers seem pretty well stuck to the shell / lamp units (possibly with rust). How do you get the loom / rubber boots of the lamps? I am asking before I wreck them.
Second question should the loom be through a grommet at the rear of the shell? Coz if it should I haven't got one just a big hole with the loom thread through it.
TIA

The big hole is normal. As far as the indicator light boots, I would try to spray something along the lines of WD-40 on them, let the headlight shell sit upside down for a couple of hours then gently twist and pull the boots out. First you have to take the indicator light lenses off.

I had a similar problem, what I did was get some Rustoleum silver anti rust or you can get Pedtit RustLoc paint. I cleaned it good with a scuff pad and painted the inside and never had a problem again.

Did it last night by co-incidence, putting a VTX headlight on my Valk. Gently pry off the lenses from the outside with a small screwdriver. Then the rest will be easy. (and the inside was rusty after 58,000.)

Colin, replacing the Valk headlight with a VTX headlight is pretty common. Dag did it. His site is http://valkyrienorway.com/. He'll be able to help with answers. You can also check some of the bike junkyards like Pinwall http://stores.shop.ebay.com/PinWall-Cycle-Parts-Inc__W0QQ_sidZ12458664?_nkw=valkyrie for replacement headlights. Marty

Marty,
Thanks for the link, I think that I will look into the VTX light, I have been watching Pinwall's listings for the last couple of weeks and not seen them list one yet,

The VTX headlight is plastic unlike the Valk and there are no provisions for the three pilot lights. I am going to drill some holes in the VTX headlight to mount them but others have made a little box to hold them and then they mount that on the handlebars or somewhere.
