Squeaky rear brake

Hey guys!

Thought I'd hit you all up before my mechanic. My rear brake has started speaking at me. Not always, and not just when she's cold. Kind of random. It looks like I have plenty of pad left, so I don't think that's it. Couldn't tell you what's on there, because it's whatever the PO had.

Any ideas? I've considered swapping them out just so I know what's on there, but I kind of hate to because it looks like they've got a lot of life left.

  A lot has to do with how they are used. My first thought would be to pull the pads , inspect all parts and retainer springs. Scuff sand the pads to remove the glaze. If the rotor is glazed , it may have to be scuffed. Make sure the caliper is not loose before pulling apart. Loose meaning worn parts. The wrong type of pad could cause the squeak.

My SOP is to replace everything that is a maintenance item little by little so that I know what's in there and a good place to begin is something like in this case where what's in there is not really behaving itself.  And while you got it apart you might as well see if it's a Honda OEM rotor or if it's in fact aftermarket because that will determine what type of pads you should put in. normally OEM pads work best on OEM rotor

I suggest to do nothing at this time. The (noise) may simply go away. Give it a chance and then if the (noise) gets worse or starts to do it all the time, well, it's then, when an inspection may be necessary.

remove the pads and chanfer the ends of the pads like they do on automotive pads.  it will eliminate squeal and will aid in shedding water when riding in the rain.
