Jerry & Sherry Sheffer

Sarasota FL

« on: August 02, 2017, 05:02:00 AM »

When my other new project is done that is.  We drove to SC with our single trailer and picked up Sherry's new ride and now we are in NC at Big Mike and Leslie's beautiful mountain top place spending two nights preceded by two nights with a Todd and Pennie at their beautiful mountain home having a great time with people known all Bc of The Valkyrie. We are going with a smaller bike for Sherry this time so an 800cc Drifter has made it's way into the stable. This was hand picked for cheap price knowing what we want to do to make it hers. She also had the same choice I had as in the Drifter world the 1999 and 2000 years both 1500 and 800cc everything was blacked out whereas the 2001-2006 everything was chrome, that makes the option field slightly less.  She is to pick out colors for the painter and a solo seat will take the bike the rest of the way. The bike has 17k and weighs 550lbs. The stable is full with two Valks and two Drifters, they all graze on Sushi and Rice so it all works.  You meet the nicest people on a Honda and Kawasaki let's the good times roll.  uglystupid2

Hey Jerry, I had a Kawi 800A model (21" narrow front tire) for awhile when I was teaching my wife to ride (easier following her around on it than a noisy full dress Hog through the neighborhood).  With pipes, air kit and rejetteed carbs, that thing would fly over 110mph just fine.  It had plenty of push, just took a bit longer getting up to speed.

We are not so concerned with speed, we kind of look at these bikes like getting a chopper, as there is very little storage and it is really for shorter rides saving other rides for the Valks. We also know that these bikes are for slower rides and I can slow down and enjoy rides just as the times we hammer it on the Valks.   I do find myself riding slower more lately.  Yes John S, it's true.  2funny am I getting older?

Soon as it cools off and everyone gets back out, we can see all the bikes and mods that have been done during the sweltering heat. Looking forward to seeing Larue's new ride, and Don's complete Overhauling. Be fun to just see the whole gang out ridding again  cooldude Maybe even Billy Boy got his bike done by now as well  cooldude

Hope all is well with everyone, I know that Crystal is healing well and getting around on her own. So we will be seeing more of her on some rides soon Wink

Going on some trips with good friends is where it's at, we need more of that  cooldude

Congrats Sherry !!!

Nice score Jerry, you have your hands full with bike projects, does she have an idea on the color yet?

You both going to have to start shopping for some old aviator hats, goggles and jackets so you can look the part while riding or at least for the pic moment.

Hope you got before and after pics of your Drifter, if not definitely do some with Sherry's project  cooldude

Nice looking ride Jerry, be interesting to see the finished product....you have until Oct. when it's possible to ride again without a heat stroke.  Wink  Maybe by then Rita will have recovered enough to be left alone for a few hours so I can join in some rides again.

Re. riding fast, it isn't age that brings it on although that will temper it a bit. We used to have a member that went by the name of Easygoer, if you ever rode with him you'd quickly understand the reason for the name. He and I rode together a few times, our riding styles were much alike so we went well together. Over the years I've found when riding hard and fast caused me to miss a lot, especially when traveling through new territory. It's just my thing regardless of whether alone or a group, when a group is riding hard and fast the risk factor goes up rather sharply and I want no part of that. I'm perfectly happy riding alone, doing my thing at my pace. Just keep in mind, there are those times when I just have to scratch that itch. When that happens, don't be surprised when all you see are taillights.  cooldude

Congrats Sherry, now we've added another rider to our group. And with Jerry's skills another great looking bike. I wonder how long before she's out riding with the group while Jerry is at work. We won't tell. LOL
Who knows maybe a Florida women's chapter in the future. And if your wondering Patti has told me "no" to any thoughts of a bike for her, she enjoys ridding on the back seat of my bike.
