Fluid from Rear Wheel Dust Guard Plate

Ok, I just replaced the rear tire and when I did, I re did the final drive (O-rings w/ Redeye, New Oil Seals, etc.) and today after riding I found some black marks on my rear rim (looks like grease or oil)...Looked closer and whipped my finger under the wheel Dust Guard Plate vent hole on the bottom and found a drip hanging on to the Guard Plate...Is this due to too much Moly Paste or grease leaking or what...??? Do I have to remove the rear tire again or is this typical after a rebuild...??? What did I do wrong...???

Just put a new rear on mine and a full drive service.   Small amount showed on my rim as well. Does the same each time.  We tend to put a bit too much grease in there and it squeases out when the wheel is installed.   Perfectly normal.clean the dust ring and rim and ride

If you over filled the diff, as the oil heats up it will expand and leak out the vent. The same could be said about the grease. Clean it up and keep an eye on it. I believe the oil level is checked while bike is on its side stand. The oil should be at the bottom of the filler bolt. I use synthetic 90 weight.

Wow...I will keep an eye on the leaking...I was totally bummed out to think I took my time and tried to be precise in all I did...then I see this...I will watch her...!!! Thanks...!!!

I bet you're good... fluid collects back in the groove where the cap with
the O-ring goes when you "fill until some comes out"... then that little
bit of fluid flies out on your first ride or so. Scared me when I first
refurbished a final drive, since I stopped after the first 10 miles to
see what it looked like back there - HORRORS, IT LOOKS LIKE A LEAK!

I overdo rear end grease and moly every time.  (Not rear end pumpkin 80-90wt gear oil)   I do it because I run car tires, and am not religious about 10K service intervals (sometimes it's 15K).

I get grease throw-up (throw out), every time.  Sometimes for several rides. Wipe it up.  It stops after a ride or three.

If you fill the final while on the sidestand and fill til it runs out, you generally will overfill it. For that method you should have the bike upright like in a wheel chock.

I vote with everyone else, it's probably grease overflow.

I've done it and it does make you go "Oh Crap!"

Typical when too much grease is used.
Had new tire put on at dealer before trip to Colorado last year.
Had handling issues arise half way through Neb.
Stopped in Kearney to check out bike and found quite a bit of goo coming out of the Dust Guard. Lots of it.
Took it to local shop.
They took it apart and found everything to be pristine. Like it came of the factory floor.
The problem was I apparently threw a wheel weight and the rear tire was hopelessly out of balance.
A call to the mechanic at the dealer. He said he "packed it pretty good with grease when he changed out the rear tire."

The grease was just oozing out.
Just a number of random things that added up to nothing.

So, unless there are other symptoms you are aware of, I wouldn't worry about it.
