Hey, if anybody has any experience or ideas how to quiet my large aftermarket exhaust tips, I'd appreciate hearing about it.  here's a video of what it looks like:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OX-xUXsY_rU

I was thinking about maybe sandwiching some muffler wrap between wire mesh and attach it with small screws?  But I'm afraid that would increase back pressure and don't really want that, at least not very much.  Don't want to weld anything and of course I don't want to spend much on it Grin  I only paid $30 for the two tips, and while they look great on there, after a couple of months of loud droning, my tinnitis is now much worse.  Thanks for your help.

When you exhaust down, it bounces off the pavement and drones. If the piggies go all the way to the curve, I don't know what you can do.

Yeah I forgot to mention that these exhaust tips face outboard. They don't point downward or at 45°.  I would have to re-drill them if I wanted to change that and I don't like the way it looks either down or at 45°.

Maybe some copper tubing bent at a 45* to extend the piggies ?

My thought also. Add on some copper tubing. should find 45' and get them out of the pipes. I'm sure they are resonating just as if the piggies where cut on a stock muffler.

Or change over to 18" long 4" straight pipes.

Did some one do any work on the mufflers except cut the piggys. My pipes on my interstate are 4 inch and aim outward, I don't get the drone with stock mufflers, but I had to cut the outer piggy down by an inch and the 2 inner ones by 1.5 inches.

Wow that is a great idea. I will do it and report back. Like somebody said it is totally a resonance chamber now the way it is with the piggies inside

Is there a particular reason it needs to be copper couldn't I just use conduit and use a tubing Bender?

I just said copper because I figured it would be the easiest to size and bend. Conduit should work fine  cooldude

I bought copper tubing from Lowes and extended my piggies for standard tips.  I would do the same on yours and buy a cheap hand held tubing bender so they follow the curve, it will look much better than 45° couplers

Yours would look better if the extended tubes made it to Just the end of the out turned tip not beyond

Ill post the pics here in a minute

Well I'm planning to use straight couplers and three quarter conduit and just bend it to the shape of the pipe I might have the extensions protrude like half an inch past the end of the aftermarket tips I'm not sure. The nice thing is nothing is permanent I can pull them off and put the stock tips back on.

Regular 3/4" copper pipe fittings are a perfect fit for the piggies.  I reconstructed my exhaust tips after finding the previous owner had cut them off up inside the exhaust tip.  Lucky for me he left about 1" sticking out of the muffler chamber.

The stub of the piggies was not exactly straight and I knew I would need to offset the new piggy extensions a little.  I used to be a plumber many years ago and I used 2 45 deg. elbows on each piggy.  You can then swivel the elbows around to get the pipe to aim anywhere you want.  Very similar to the pics above except you gain some ability to change direction on the pipes.

You might be able to put some more fittings in the pipes to make them conform to the shape of your exhaust tip.  If you have access to a tubing bender 3/4" soft copper tubing might work.  I actually bought about 6' but I couldn't make it work lacking the bender.  It's hard to bend a piece by hand when it's only a foot long.

Pack them with sand and then bend them if you have no bender. Sand will stop it from crimping. Just make sure its packed good.

Nice trick but I do have a bender and even then I'm scarcely skilled enough to do it right we'll see. Cheesy
