Wish I was out riding...

Watertown CT

« on: August 06, 2017, 05:32:15 PM »

In the morning there seemed to be some tension like a little too much choke.  I started to get a little worried and finally came to the conclusion that maybe this was not something I could take care of and might have to have someone look at it.

So I had Trudy make the call.  I was going to the doctors Wink.  Three weeks ago last Friday I went in and the doc said I needed to see the cardiologist that afternoon.   A couple days later I was on the dyne (nuclear stress test).  Tuesday I went in to review the results and the doc suggested we go take a look and Thursday morning I went in for a coronary catheterization.   The look confirmed that I had a Y pipe with two clogs and in went two stents.  The doc said he was glad we had not waited another couple of weeks to work around his vacation and my trip to NH for Trudy's family reunion yesterday.

I got out of the hospital on Friday morning and we drove to NH Friday night.   I had to watch the femoral artery and take it easy but driving was ok.

4 hours and 45 minutes later I was 12 miles from my brothers house in Berlin at abut 10:15 PM and zipping along Rt 2 in Randolph and it happened.  I drove by 2 state troopers and when the headlights came on I pulled over even before they moved or turned on the blues.  Trudy said "how fast were you going" and I said "faster than I should be".  NH's finest asked me the same thing and I said "I don't know, maybe 66?".  "69 is what the radar said".

I used everything that I had.  My sob story of just getting out of the hospital that morning with 2 stents, my brother being only 12 miles away, going to Berlin High School, Trudy's family reunion being in West Milan.   License and registration followed.

A ticket for 65 in a 55.   He saved me $90 he said by dropping it to "65 in a 55".  Oh well.  My first verifiable speeding ticket in my life Wink. Now I cannot make the claim of no tickets to the kids Smiley.  I guess I should not complain.

So I have to send $62 to NH within 30 days.   The blue F-150 is not invisible like the Valkyrie is I guess.   Glad it was in NH and not CT as the tick would be in the hundreds of dollars for sure.

But the weekend was good.  I got to see my family and we got to Trudy's family reunion as well!   Still a good weekend.

So now I need to make some changes.  I've got about 60lbs of brisket in the freezer to smoke, about 40lbs of ribs to smoke, about 50lbs of NY strip to cook but pretty much none is going in my gullet.  My sister said she might come down and shop at my house for her and her boyfriends smoker Sad

The interesting thing is my cholesterol is not bad.  My LDL is at the high end to just where the doc said he would consider medicine.  The HDL is good and the triglycerides is good as well.   He wants the LDL much lower now however.

So I am going to save up to splurge at the February get together and eat some BBQ there.  Or I can just drink the beer which I have been known to do Wink

The past few weeks I have not been on the bike.  I figured if something was happening, probably not a good idea to be on 2 wheels as well.  Once I see the doc a week from Wednesday I will pretty much be cleared to be back on the bike, both phyisically and mentally as well.

Hmmmmm.... In no way am I a doctor, or ever considered being one, but maybe
what you need Brett is more relaxing and less stressful working.
I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express at one time or another, so this qualifies me to offer my opinion.
$62 ain't all that bad, all things considered.
Get your health under control, and ask Trudy to pay the NH ticket !!!!
Time to cut way back on the delicious cuts of beef, and learn to eat the green stuff
that grows on your lawn !!!

P.S.   Let me know when you plan on firing up the smoker, Ryan and I need another
road trip....and maybe you could use another lesson on pouring a good black & tan.    Roll Eyes

Glad to hear you are O. K. Welcome to the stent cluib. Smiley Moderation is the key. You can still eat what you crave... just don't be an oinker about it.

AS far as the ticket goes.. it's about time they caught you. Cheesy

Brett, glad to hear things are on the mend. As someone that has been watching his HDL/ LDL / Blood pressure / Sugar for ten years. It is a battle, but you can win them if you choose wisely. I still eat BBQ, just not as much. I still drink Bourbon, just not as much. And you, I'm sure, have been told to start walking.  That part sucks.
Glad you were smart enough to recognized an issue before it came time for a complete overhaul.
So, maybe you and I go to weight watchers, then have a Jack and BBQ after.

You guys can come and walk with Laurel & I.....
We occasionally walk up the sides of mountains !!!
Have bourbon in cupboard, and 2 bbq's within 10 miles....
Or you could pitch a tent on the back lawn, shoot the ar-15 (no promises, but we could possibly have live and moving targets), and smoke the meats on our smoker....

Yeah the ticket was more the reasonable.  Funny thing it did not even bother me.  As for the stent club I was thinking of you Ron.  Now I can be grumpy once in a while just like you  Grin

No exercise until I see the doctor next Wednesday.  The groin bruised up nicely and they really don't want me to split open the artery I guess  Shocked

I am going to try to stick with the diet.  Losing about 30 lbs would be the goal for me and then see from there.  I went from taking 0 medicine on Wednesday to 5 on Thursday.  Trudy badgered me into getting a pill box and my sister said "man you are old" when she saw that  Cry

Chris, the stents are Platinum and Chromium.  Good metal!

Brett, glad you doc found it and took quick action. Also glad you're feeling better. Soryy about the speeding ticket. With the speeds you ride you're Valk, amazing that this is your first ticket.  Wink

Wow! Good news is they fixed the blockage! Bad news is that some of the stuff you love will have to have intake reduced. If you can get away, go for a walk on your lunch hour. It's a great way to burn calories at a time you'd otherwise be ingesting them, and you can eat at your desk while you're working... Glad you were so perceptive, some folks don't get the early warning... If it helps, I'm back on a diet, we can do some arugula together some time. My speeding award in PA this spring was over $200, and it happened in the same town where I had my ruptured appendix removed back in the mid-60's. Guess they just couldn't get enough of me... Heal carefully, you'll be good as new before you know it.  Kiss

Man,, stay away from the computer a couple days and ya miss all sorts of news.

Glad to hear all is well with your health and your drivers license.   Sounds like a redirection of oil to the pump and your warranty has been extended. Now just a bit less work and more fun and you'll be good to go!!

mechanic!  cooldude glad you caught the misfire in time.
And I'm really amazed that it was your 1st ticket.  How many warnings have you gotten or out rode the men in blue?  Grin
I guess you are joining the rest of us who have to lose a few LBs. It's tough though, especially when life is so good Wink

Take care
