COOLANT LIGHT FLICKERING

I was out for a ride today and my coolant light came on. It stayed on for about a minute then went off. Now I see it flickering at times. Also , when I turn the key on it just flickers for a second, then goes off. The oil light and side stand light stay on, but coolant light doesn't. Any thoughts on this.

As a guess, you have a '97-'99 Valk. The early coolant lights had failures like this due to a module failing. It was corrected sometime in '99.

It is a 97. Do you know what module this would be? Or what it is called to get another.

I just had this about 3 weeks ago. A old guy who owns a shop in Goodland KS told me to check the coolent. Fill it to the brim and then run it. I came on three more times in the next 60 miles and since (about 500) nothing.  Check that before doing the module thing. I got air in it when I went up Pikes Peak. If you did hills over 10-15 degrees you might of gotten air. It was a air bubble in my lines is all.

Don't understand how going up a hill would get air in a Closed System? Must be me but seems impossible

I suppose that, if the reserve tank is very low (well below MIN), and you allowed the system to cool with the bike pointing up a steep enough hill, it could draw air as the coolant shrinks.

Mine was not low BUT the hills going around the corners at Pike Peak was very steep. LIke over 20% I guess. So that is about the only way that I can figure that air got in. After I got home, I checked it again and it was lower so there was air in it.

Thanks klb, I printed this out for future if needed. I bought my bike in 97 and never heard about the issue with the temp module.
cheeseman1969, funny you say that about going up hill. I was going up hill when I seen my light on. Then last night I pulled my side cover and my coolant is down to the min. mark. I'm gonna try toping it off and see how that goes.

I would open your raditor too and add it to the brim. I betcha that after you ride it a bit, there will be air in that radiotor cap.
