Many years ago I moved to Austin and soon noticed that on those beautiful hill country roads there were long sticks on the side of the road with markers for six feet, seven feet, eight feet, etc. Couldn't figure out what the h*ll they were for until the first storm of the spring. It was then that I learned about hill country flash floods.

they have something similar in Houston at the bridge underpass shoulders, although they usually start at 4 ft and go up to around 13 ft.   In the storm of '79 with 43" of rain that day (yes, 43 inches), water was pretty deep in some places.   Shocked   and btw Pat,  SRV is one of my Texas favorites.  Wink
