I had a little scare on yesterdays ride I forgot to mention. I have gone Darkside earlier this year and like my choice very much. (Goodyear Assurance Tripletread). I am absolutely at one with my machine now, don't think about it at all, just natural. I was pulling into a state park to use the "facilities" and there were speed bumps. I rode around the right side of the speed bumps, as I always have in the past. If you do this with a C/T, please do so with caution. The road looked fine and level, my speed was slow. I was pulled off the road into the grass and was not prepared, as you can see from the photo, there's a sign post right where I passed through. It was close. Just saying, be carefull. This was a first for me.   |

If you're going to slow down anyway why swerve off the road to avoid the speed hump? I usually just go over them.

I wasn't "slowing down"...My speed was slow, as posted in the park. Not trying to start a debate either. (go around, go over). Simply stating for others to be carefull, learn from my experience and hopefully some wil not have something potentially worse happen. Just a Safety tip.  |

I don't understand what you're saying. Are you saying the road wasn't level and the car tire made you go towards the sign? Or are you saying you weren't paying attention and almost hit the sign. Need a few more details here....

I've never seen a Speed Hump or it's signage in my travels.  We have Speed Bumps and at 14" wide and at 8 mph (on the bike) will eject you from your cockpit, literally! On the Valk 2 mph is too fast for our bumps. I wouldn't even bother going around a hump like that especially with a run-off flow control at the grass no matter what tire I was sporting nor how slow I was going even sans sign post. Regardless, you had an edge trap at the grass & concrete. Any tire will react if you catch it just right. That situation there could be a problem on a bicycle! Glad you didn't catch a grip on the post. |

I've seen speed humps. I always assumed that they were longer than speed bumps. Bumps tend to fit under one wheel at a time (in this part of the woods) and speed humps are the long flat topped speedsters.
At NC State they had what they called speed mountains, which were long raised portions of the roads, but they weren't flat. It was like a speed bump on top of a speed hump. Those were heck on the bike after they got a little rutted and scraped under cars.

I'm confused also on what was going on. ??? If you caught the edge of the pavement it it throwed ya, been there to. I also have done it with my bike tire. As for the speed hump sign, I never saw one before and thought it was funny! I need one of those for my garage! |

I tried to "borrow" one of these signs when I was 19 and driving thru Mexico the first time. The small Mexico towns didn't have the police to enforce the speed limits so they used big speed bumps in the roads to make you slow down.  |
