I have toyed with the thought of painting my Valkyrie to give it a new look.
Can anyone throw me a price as to what it would cost to strip, sand, and repaint the two complete fenders, side cover assembly, and fuel tank on my 98 tourer?
Can the tank badges be reinstalled afterwards?
I have a maroon and creme  and I do admire the black model when I see one. Or maybe a nice dark maroon. I'm not talking custom work like flames and such, just a one color professionally done job.
Thanks for any ideas, Eric

1998 Maroon and Creme Tourer. This is my second Valkyrie. I have been a member here since I had bought my first one back in 1998. I had a different account then.

I just got a quote last week to do tank, side covers, both fenders, Corbin Beetle bags including some repairs to the bags and tank. They will be using top shelf paint, (Black) base coat/clear coat. $1,000. I remove and deliver the parts. Not sure if thats competative or not but it sounded OK to me.
Yes, the badges can be removed and put back on. I read somewhwere about using a heat gun to loosen the tape and monofilament fishing line in kind of back and forth sawing motion to seperate the badge from the tank.

That doesn't sound bad. A bud of mine paid $400 to have a set of Honda OEM bags painted black. The painter has a very good reputation and used good paint/clear coat

I was thinking the same thing. I looked into it and talked a friend of mine that does painting for Arlen Nees from time to time. He told me if i brought him all the parts he would do it 700. That would include removing the tank emblems and painting in " valkyrie" on the sides of the tank. Since all the parts don't need body work it would be easy to do. Now is a good time to do it due to times are hard and painters are having to lower their prices to get work.

This cost me $2200-2500 in 02/03. He musta put 6 coats of clear. Alot of airbrushing and hand pin stripe. Next time I'll go to a auto body and have them paint it solid. Its got some scars on it from trips and stuff but its only paint.

You might want to look for the thread where someone mentioned just meeting and trading out painted pieces to change colors.  Sounds like it might be a good/cheap (free) option.

It started out as a $800.00 paint job ( me bringin' the tins to him ) . It had Corbin Bettlebags on it then....I did'nt care for them at all.

So I bought some stock Hondaline Interstate bags for it ( they was black ).The painter turned the scallop's wrong and it looked like the bike was bent  Sad  plus the blue was much darker that cost me $250.00 more .

I took them back and he did them for " free " the next time by half-ass gettin' the scallop's to match up....This is what it looks like now...$1,050.00 total co$t .

Words to live by :

Cheap paint jobs ain't good

Good paint jobs ain't cheap

Best advice here. . . . "you get what you pay for" when it comes to painting vehicles.  I just had my 69 painted. I "paid" for a driving quality type paint job and that's just what I got. . . . The cost was 'cheap' by show vehicle standards, but it looks good and I want to drive my truck in the summer anyway. We do show it, but just to get the good parking spots  cooldude There's local painter with a national following less than a mile from my house. The guy's work is simply the best I've seen. He's painted for a number of celeberties. He doesn't give a price quote. The only thing he'll tell you is; "it will be over $10,000."  I know a local car guy that got one of his cars painted by him. It was over $20,000 and that was 4 or 5 years ago. That's out of my league. Personally, I would cringe paying 3 or 4 grand for my bike to be painted, but the truth is, that ammount isn't out of line for a high quaity, professional paint job.  The same quaity on a car can easily be double that.
