Being lazy... Just checking if someone has already located a place that will mount a darkside tire. I hope to spend tomorrow morning getting the wheel off and driving, instead of calling all over Galveston and Harris counties.

I figure after my second nail in the rear tire, time to change, so darkside here I come!

Probably get the old one patched anyway, "just in case" I don't like it... Only have about 6K on the Avon...

Wizard swears that any Discount tire anywhere will mount the tire.
Call 'em up and ask!
The most they can do is say no...

They were my first thought, at least to buy the tire if nothing else. And I can pass by there on my way home to ask.

Just that they have been closed by the time I get off work lately... Could call 'em, but I need a cattle prod to keep people out of my cubicle already...

P.S. TINMAN, I couldn't find ANY burrs or scratches on the slider to affect the seals on the fork, but I polished it a bit anyway with an ultra fine Scotchbrite. I may have hit the sharp edge of the bushing grove after I had it assembled last time and cut the seal. I did use the plastic wrap then like you did when I assembled, but before I got it together, it slid out to the limit over the bushing grove, could have been then...

It does not take much to nick the seals.
Those edges are ultra sharp!
When I did mine the plastic wrap was cut by them.

If I recall correctly, he said that Discount Tire will mount the tire if you bring them a wheel.  I don't think I would want them messing around with wheel removal anyway, but just so you know.

Wizard has had several done at Discount Tires.  Now, however, he takes the wheel to a local shop in(or near) Manvel.  We order the Altimax tires online from the Tire Rack.

Discount Tire will mount them if you bring in the wheel, but they can't balance them.  I had mine mounted there then took it to a Honda shop for balancing.  I had to sign a statement  at Honda saying that I understood that I would crash and burn because of the Darkside tire.  After I signed, they told me they were seeing more and more DS on the big shaft-drive bikes.

Discount said they'ld mount my next one. They  didn't seem to have any problems about it. You can get dyna beads in baytown at johns trim shop. Then no balancing needed.

Many thanks for all the replies! Got my wheel off a few minutes ago, headed for Discount with dyna beads in my hand! (in the bag of course  crazy2 ) Takes care of the balancing.

TINMAN, That's what I was thinking with the plastic wrap, this time I covered the area with blue masking tape, worked great and didn't move.

All washed up and headed off to Discount.......

Well, Discount in Texas City said their machine wouldn't hold the rim to change it... So, I bought the tire and headed up 146 to Bacliff. First stop, just west of 146 on 646 is Iron Mike's, $35 later and I am darksidin'!

I notice the "squishy" feeling of low speed on uneven pavement, but I was getting the same with my Avons, just a little bit more on the GTT. Beyond that, so far, so good!

Emailing now to darkside0001@hotmail.com to get my number (and I hope, a cookie!)

What is the name of the shop? I pass through Highlands fairly regular, headin' up to visit Mom in Huffman. Always good to know good places for service.

In fact, that might be a good sticky for the admin, a posting of good independent shops, an online word of mouth source...

Dodis the name of the shop is Luna's just north of Yamaha dealer on main. You have to bring wheel into him not setup to remove from bike. I live in Huffman so give me a shout next time you come that way. Smiley

I have a tire changer but it is manual. I also have a bubble balancer. Both have not been used so I don't know how laboruous the changer is.
It does have  a bead breaker. You are welcome to use it. I mounted it to a big piece of plywood.
Not sure that was such a good idea. Wish I had the bucks to blow on a professional automatic changer.
About  $1264 from harborfrieght.
I'll have to remember the blue tape method next time I do mine or someone elses.
