Hi guy's, I have a 1998 CT with 40,000 miles on the bike. I have this noise coming from the bike that I can't figure out, it sound like transmission whining but I don't think so. In neutral when I crank the gas it revs up normally, no weird sounds . When driving and picking up speed there is no change in the sound but if I hit small bumps, you can hear it change as if the tire was coming of the ground. I did think it might be the front tire being worn so I did get a new Avon, no difference. I did think it was the idler pulleys so I took them off to check, and they were good. If the noise would change with speed I could figure out were it's coming from but, it doesn't seem to or a slight change I don't notice . It's very annoying to hear that sound, if I drive between 80 and 100 KM/H it's there above 100 KM it's goes away. I know it sound weird, that's why I'm checking with you guy's to get the brains working. I know there is going to be a few questions about the bike so, last winter I went true that bike from A to Z to see if there are any problems I could find and fix them. All of your suggestion I will look into, I have to fix this problem . Thanks

Maybe try riding again in the zone where you hear it the most, then roll off the throttle and pull in the clutch. Let the revs drop and see if it still does it. Montreal has enough potholes and cracks you should be able to do this test near anywhere.

Does the sound stop when you apply the brake? Could it be a hung up pad? Had a retaining spring not quite right and the pad would bounce around over bumps and potholes. These bikes can telegraph sound everywhere. I thought I had an issue with the front forks at first. Another possibility is the rubber liners on the inside of the fender beginning to come off and rub on the tire. But that sound would change with a change in speed.

Tween 45 M P H and 55 M P H these Valkyries have a distinct gear whine. Gears in our transmissions are square cut. Also look at shoptalk for known issues on these machines. And yer particular machine is 19 years. RIDE SAFE.

I did take the pads off to check and clean them and there is good tension on the springs. I did check the liner, all good.

I know what you mean about the whine, this is my second Valk, I think they all do that.

I thought about that to the only thing is, the sound doesn't really change with the speed of the bike. But for the hell of it I will disconnect the cable and try it. If it still does it, I will go true the bike from end to end and find this noise if it kills me.
