Hi All:
I have noticed fuel on the garage floor below the left exhaust weep hole this morning. I'm considering carb removal for cleaning and rebuild, as the rubber parts are 17 years old. Probably need to replace the float valves at the least. Some questions:

1. Is there a great carb guru in the northern Illinois area? I'm near Rockford. What should I expect to spend on a clean and rebuild?

2. Is a desmog worth doing once the carbs are off?

3. Is this something I will be able to do at home? Some experiences with "mechanics" have been very negative for me, and I ended up doing the repairs better at home after having it done wrong at a shop.

Maybe Da Prez will know a place that can do the work well in the Chicagoland area. I'm pressed on time and may be better off having it done for me if the cost is reasonable.

I'd sure appreciate any opinions and suggestions this group may have.

1. I do not know
2. No. unless you are having problems with it.
3 Yes in 4 to 6 hours.

Good luck.

I would first find the leak before doing anything.

I did do the desmog when I did my carbs, a hole lot less clutter

When doing the carbs make sure you check the float levels, they are not adjustable so some don't check (I was guilty first strip)..... but if they are wrong in height it can cause serious damage!

carbs rebuilds are time consuming and fiddly in places but if not rushed you will get it sorted

If fuel is coming out the exhaust don't try to start it without removing the plugs!

When doing one, it makes it a lot easier to do the other, with regards to the desmog. I'll be doing mine after I get my truck stacks on my exhaust pipes.

Sorry, but don't know enough local areas on the East coast, but I would check to see where Big BF is in his travels around the US. Get him to do your carbs.
