Hope you all stay safe and do not suffer any damage.  Watch out for Jose if you escape Irma.

Hoping we can ride it out, been storing stuff inside for a couple days. Have 2 gen sets, a 6500 and a 5800 watt, and 40 gallons of gas, figure we will lose power at the least for a few days.  Hoping we still have a house after it goes through, would suck to lose it. Right now the track is showing up the middle of the state, will be rough for every one.

Wishing you FL guys well too.

Bring the helmets inside too.  As I recall FL does not have basements.

A few but not many, a friend in Zephyrhills has a basement, only find them on high ground.

Insurance is a concern, remember the JUA after Andrew, and about 9 insurance companies went under.
Will we be able to collect if it is wide spread?

Hope everyone has been able to get everything that makes you feel confident you will be okay. I have filled up all vehicles, have plenty of propane, Coleman lantern and stove and extra mantels, radio and extra batteries, enough food for a week, water, but do not have enough material to board up house but probably enough to protect bikes even if they are in the garage 2funny 2funny cars will stay outside, have what I think is a safe room.

Good Luck Everyone

Uh oh, looks like it's taking a more westerly path. You guys over near the left coast keep you heads down. I've moved everything small enough to fit into the garage and still leave room for the car. Some stuff on the back patio has been laid on its side and I used some tie downs to lash them together, creating a little more weight for the wind to pick up. Got the two big front windows boarded up, about all we can do for now. After moving the car into the garage and the door closed, I plan to roll it back to apply some slight pressure against the door to help prevent it from blowing in. Not foolproof but it helps. We'll probably spend the night in our master BR walk in closet, it's cozy and kinda in the center of the house. I worry more about embedded tornadoes, especially since this thing is going to pass in the night.

So, everybody hang on to your coconuts......  Wink

Same here, put every thing inside the shop and house. Tied the boats down and put a foot of water inside each one. boarded up all the windows on the north and east side of the house. Moved the toy hauler to the west side of the house to keep it out of the wind. have my bike and old farts inside the shop.  Just hoping every thing survives the blow, we will probably be going to a shelter sat eve.  Anna's sister wanted us to come to Greenville, Sc, but with the traffic and gas shortages we are going to ride it out. Sure hope it calms down after it hits land, not looking very good right now.

I remember Charley in '04. It started up the west coast and headed inland northward at an angle that took it right across the Orlando Metro area. Here's hoping Irma doesn't do that, the weather patterns north of us don't appear to support a major turn like that this time but you never know.

Sept. 9th 1960......was the first hurricane I went through. Lived on Islamorada then. Knew most of the people mentioned on this site. If you take a minute to go through the site keep in mind that the island was heavily treed. What is left in the photos looks like something that survived a bomb blast. Only way on or off the island was by boat. No water as the pipeline had failed in several places. We did not have the detailed weather warning systems in place back then that we do now.
Killed my next door neighbor. Washed out of her house. She was found three weeks later, up a creek, tangled in mangroves a bit over ten miles North.

Check out the path of Hurricane Donna.........interesting!

I remember Donna, I was stationed at Pease AFB, Portsmouth, NH at the time and we had a spell of horrific weather. As I recall, they flew a lot of the aircraft out of there, not knowing just how bad it was going to be.

Donna is the first hurricane I remember . Just a kid at the time. My grandfather was in the LP gas business, so our house had gas water heat, gas refridgerator even an LP lamp. We had no power for a week. That may happen again this time. It's Donna's anniversay Sad
