Good morning all! I was curious if anyone has used a digital gear position indicator on the Valk and if so what brand and cost? The pricing seems to be all over the place. Thanks!

So whats the difference between this unit and one of those Ebay $50 deals? I would assume reliability? It only does one thing.

150 $ is a crazy price, even in France you have it for much less (100$)

You can't assume a better reliability  linked to a higher price, imho.  Wink

$100 dollars is for the X-type. Our bikes need the DS HO2, that goes for $159. One of the best accessories that I have installed on my bike! Super easy install. The red and blue indicators are the brightest. Can be seen in full sun. East set-up, just accelerate through the gears and the indicator is ready! I attached to the left side of my speedometer using the double-sided tape included.

Goldstar,

Ok got my attention. So where does it actually plug in at?

Is this the one you have : Gear Indicator Pro DS Series for Honda GPDS-H02

Also, is it waterproof at least for rain? Doesn't say on site.

When I test rode the Motus, I thought it was really cool that I could
look at the pictures later and see that I was tooling along at
65 mph in 3rd gear at medium rpm with three gears and a lot
of winding out left to do...

I've never given second thought to a gear indicator before or since...

Why would one really want a gear indicator?

Why would one really want a gear indicator?

Good question.

After ten years (but it didn't take that long), I can probably tell with 95% accuracy what gear I am in at any time (with or without a glance at the speedo and tach).

Not that it really matters though; I am generally in the right/optimal gear for my speed and road conditions, whatever gear that happens to be.  This is done with FEEL (the motor, and how it is pulling), and SOUND (the exhaust, even pure stock).

Even after ten years though, I once in a while still shift for the non existent 6th...... it's not really for 6th, it's just to make sure I'm in 5th.  This gets done on remote control, since if I glanced at my speedo and tach, I'd know what gear I was in without trying a shift to 6th.  I guess I just don't feel like looking, so I bang the shifter down once more anyway (once in a while).

Probably one of the trickiest shifts, is when slowing for a light ahead (that may or may not change to green as you are rolling in with no throttle) or other traffic flow obstruction.  I often shift down two gears (never to first, unless stopping for sure).  I usually get it right, but once in a while I get a surprising lurch when easing out the clutch (whoops, one gear too low on that one).  Again, this is all by feel.
