I have a set of Drag Specialty Spot Lights (55 Watt). I purchased them in 2005 from Sophie’s Bike works. Two years ago one bulb blew out. My Honda dealer replaced both bulbs with H3 55 watt bulbs from Auto Zone, as he didn’t any 55 watt H3 in stock. Well you guessed it. One bulb blew out and a few days later the other one blew out. I think the bulbs should last longer than that.
I would like to know where I can get longer lasting H3 55Watt bulbs.
Look forward to your replies.

God bless,
Gideon

How about LED replacement lights? H4 is pretty common, it comes down to how much room you have in your housings.

I have Drag Specialties spots on 2 of my bikes but they are H4's.  They are standard sized shells.  You might be able to find sealed beams which are bright and pretty long-lived. I can't imagine finding a soln to your issue would be hard, online. Look at ebay and jcwhitney.  I think you experienced a fluke on those bulbs.

The reason they burned out early is most likely due to the installer touching the bulbs with his fingers. Body oils on the surface tend to create a hot spot, causing early demise. When installing a halogen bulb you never want to touch it with bare fingers, always use a paper towel or similar when handling that type of bulb. Re. LED's, I agree....find a replacement, install and forget it.

I am going with the LED replacement bulbs.  cooldude

I knew about not touching the halogen bulbs, however I never said anything to the Honda Dealer's tech. I thought he would know.

Thanks again.

Also watch where they're made. I have gotten plenty of bulbs (home remodeling) that are made in China (hard to find any not) but they do not last. Sometimes don't even work right out of the box. I 100% agree with LED. Try and get high K value. I prefer any over 4500K

Today I replaced the 55 Watt H3 Halogen Bulbs with 50 Watt High Performance H3 LED 360 Bulbs in both Spotlights. Used Pathfinder Part No. #226-0003. All I can say is WOW, they are bright.   Smiley
