I read a few months ago on the national board or on one of the Valkyrie "how to" webpages about a Wally World oil filter made by Super Tech, part # ST3593A.  Super Tech filters are made by Champion from what I found on the Internet.  Since I was due for a change and I had to go to Wally's anyway I bought one and put it on today.  It is larger in size and it took exactly four quarts of oil to fill 'er up, no more of that 3.9 quarts BS.  I had also seen the filter listed on this generic parts website.

http://www.jkozloski.com/generic_parts.htm

It was only $2.44.  I saved almost $20 getting this filter and oil there instead of the dealer.

Wal-Mart also has Sea Foam for $6.44.  I can't find Sea Foam for that price anywhere else around here.

After reading lots of independent tests and consulting bobistheoilguy.com, I went with the Purolator PureOne PL-14610 filter.  It has the highest rating I could find.  (Comes in black or yellow!)

Re oil, I'm on my second interval with Royal Purple full synthetic (expensive, but based in Texas.).  I went 7,500 mile on the first interval of 10-40, and the Blackstone Labs used oil analysis (UOA) suggested I try 8,500 miles on the next interval.  I didn't wait for the UOA before re-filling, and fearing that I had sheared viscosity at that interval, replaced with 20-50.  Going back to 10-40 next time as my mpg has dipped noticeably.  Could be the restrictive stock pipes vs the 2bros I took off about the same time.

Sorry Cat, I sold them.  They were in great shape but I was so glad to get them out of here I included a tube of semichrome and a pair of earplugs.

Dave, I like that site, too.  Nice to get some view into the filters as opposed to just opinions.  But, the last couple of filters have been won at club dinners, so I've used them.  My next experiment may be to change just the filter at 5,000 and go to 10,000 and submit the oil for analysis.  At this point, it's not so much about the cost, but the thirst for knowledge.  I'll probably do that on a car, though, so it won't be apples to apples.

Yellow filters, eh?  You and Dag could go to town on those.  Grin

Ditto on filter, I used last fall for my Dry Docking the Valk. for winter. I payed $8.99 for SeaForm before I knew Wally World sold for $6.44. Angry
