Well prior to going to the Fall Color Ride I decided to do a little traveling .... kinda taking the long way to Robbinsville.

First stop was Dayton, OH and a visit with an old friend and his family. Seems that they have this scarecrow competition for Halloween and here are a few pics from their efforts ...

that dog is eyeballing the fire hydrant

and the whole family

After the scarecrow setup, my buddy and I went to the Hill Climb Races and if you have never been then please find the time and go .... simply amazing!

And look .... Lucky 13 was at the races

After spending the weekend in Dayton it was back on the road, winding my way across Ohio, West Virginia, Virginia and North Carolina. Along the way I made a stop in Mt. Airy, NC., hometown of Andy Griffith and the Mayberry exhibit.

After spending some time in Mt. Airy it was onto the Blue Ridge Parkway ... and the colors where beautiful!

I spent a couple of nights in Boone, NC and Ron (Normandog) came by and drove me around this part of North Carolina. The roads and the country side were fantastic and I know that it would have been even more enjoyable if it wasn't raining and we were on the bikes ... but that was not to be. But Ron did take me to this little diner, The Blue Ridge Cafe, and the food was excellent.
I had the Blue Ridge Cheese Steak

Ron had a hamburger

Thursday I got up and it was onto Tennessee and meeting up with Smokin Joe. On Friday we met up with Gordon, Greg, Dave and Big Al. The plan was to meet up with more riders and wander around ending up in Robbinsville at the Phillips Motel.

Along the way it started to rain, Big Surprise, but Greg's rain suit made sure that we would be seen.

We finally connected with Coot, Britman, Thumper, Duffy, T-Bird, Sam & Son-of-Sam and several other riders and we were off ... 1st stop, Bald River Falls

With the weather not co-operating we headed out and on to the skyway. Smokin Joe, Greg, Dave and myself stopped at an overlook which is when I knew my rear tire was not long for this world.

When we got down to the junction with US129, Dave led me to Wheelers and the man had the tires I needed. Dave headed back to Knoxville, I got new tires and headed to the Phillips Motel.

Friday at the Phillips Motel was pretty much the same as always .... good fun & fellowship.

The Ol' Bug Killer (DDT) was there

Big Al was demonstrating his people skills

People were gathered around the fires

Standing around and talking

And just having a great time.

Even The Deton8ter was smiling!

Saturday, we all met over at McDonald's

And headed out north on US129 ... Deal's Gap here we come .... of course it started raining

and it was just a little chilly

So we headed out on 28 and surprise surprise ... it had cleared up by the time we reached the Hellbender store .... so we kept going. We stopped along the way and took a couple of pictures

And eventually ended up back at the Phillips Motel.

Great Pics Thom. I've never seen so much water coming over Bald River Falls. Looks like the fire pit party was a blast as usual. Thanks for the pics.
Glad I got to see ya if we did have to cage it.  cooldude

Cool  cooldude

Hillclimb pictures never do justice to the hills... I bet those hills were real long and had places
on them that were practically straight up...

Back before all the open land in the mountains around here got "civilized", we used to
climb some monster hills... the real exciting part is when you don't make it and have to
bulldog it around and ride it back down...

I remember going to a hillclimb with my father when I was 10 or 12... they rode highly
modified Triumphs and Harleys then...
