I read this post on goldwingdoc

http://goldwingdocs.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=16&t=38884

Seems a member had a opened bottle of brake fluid in their trunk to top up their reservoir, and it leaks a little. Since the inside of the trunk is unpainted, he notice a problem. The trunk started braking apart.

Not much to read in the above post, just the original post and a reply.

I never knew there was an issue with this, only with brake fluid on painted surfaces.

It's not that I need to carry fluid with me, but I have taken it to our annual maintenance day, and come home with an open bottle in my bag. Something I don't think I'll do any more, but put it in a zip lock bag.

I wouldn't trust a zip lock. put it in a larger screw top container, tape both caps and then zip lock.

Some people use it like WD40 to break nuts and bolts loose. My brother in law  swears by it. Would have to watch where you spray it. Never tried it. Brake fluid is not good for anything you like the looks of.

Old Military guy worked at the local Ford dealer.
He was a dang good tech.
One day I was there about getting some work done on our older Bronco.
He was working on a truck trying to get water pump off, he got this squirt bottle and put the stuff on the bolt threads.
I asked Alton, what was in the bottle.... He said used motor oil and brake fluid...
He said there aint nothing that it will not loosen OR get rust ,paint out of the way...
Yep.... I got my own little bottle of used oil and brake fluid.... Alton was right....

Brake fluid will also eat paint in a hurry.

acetone and dextron/mercron automatic transmission fluid or acetone and vegetable oil has been tested and rated best for rusty bolts.
