Im in the middle of modding my brackets for easy on/off of the trunk. Rear speakers worked great. When I cut the wires to add a 4 pin plug I noticed there are 8 wires running up to the rear speakers.  Roll Eyes
I put an 4 pin plug in on just 4 wires and tested it and everything seems to be working as it should. So why is there 8 wires in that harness. 2 speakers should only need 4 wires.

When I did my trunk conversion I used two flat 4 pin trailer type connectors.

One for the 4 speaker wires
One for the running and brake lights to the trunk (3 wires)

I snipped the 4th wire on the lights circuit so I would not confuse them.

All the original OEM harnesses have plug style connectors. The tail / brake lights, turn signals, rear speakers, antenna, CB.
Where did you cut the wires, the interstate has a 4 pin black plug under the right side cover for the rear speakers.
Did the PO cut off the original connector and just spliced in the harness.

something isnt right there.
There is a single 4 pin connector for the speakers.  The other connector is the lights on the trunk and the signals and license plate light etc.
I made a harness specific to the bike so I didnt cut any wires.  It is simple plug and play.  I had to buy the connector under the fender to add the extra wiring for the fender mounted tail light.

The previous owner must have made his own wire harness. All he wires are in a black tubing. The end that plugs in behind the side cover has only 4 wires coming out going into the 4 pin connector. The other end has those same 4 wires plus another 4 wires.  Roll Eyes Roll Eyes I spliced in a 4 pin for quick release and everything works as it should. Those 4 other wires are a mystery.

How did you get at the wires? I cant figure out how to get the trunk liner out. I wanted to use the trailer connection 12V leads to put in a USB charger besides one of the speakers for my passenger but can't figure out how to get the liner out of the trunk.

There are about 14 screws around the rim under the rubber weatber stilling that have to be removed and a couple underneath the trunk.

Everyone mentions the screws that have to come out to remove the liner.  No one mentions that the rubber grommets have to be taken out also and the liner lifts right out.
