I have a 99CT and need to replace the front fork lock, bracket and lock...I don't see where I can get to the mounting bolt...Is it something I have to do to line up the front fork so I can get the locking bracket off...!!! seems like my locking bracket was hacksawed so the PO could drive it...he lost the key back then...Hhmmm...!!! Guess it is called the Handlebar Lock...!!!
Thanks...!!!

Can't find it in the book. Looking at photos in the manual it seems to me that you have to drop the steering stem to access two phillips screws!! Guess it has to be miserable to get to so no one can steal the bike!
I haven't looked at mine (IS), to see if it could be done some other way.  Let us know.

Ive replaced steering head bearings a few times for a few other valk owners.  The lower triple tree has to be removed to access the mounting screws.  Also it would have to be keyed to work with the ignition

I read this thread last night, and didn't want to be a buzz
kill because I wasn't sure I remembered right, but ...

Nice.  Looks familiar. Now that last piece to remove (steering stem) and you'll see that lock

Well I guess if and when I work on the front fork, I'll replace the lock...just don't think all that work is worth replacing the lock only...Thanks...!!!

I moved the trunk and mounting hardware from my '01 Interstate to my '99 Tourer during late June of '09 and attacked the remainder of the planned parts swap on Labor Day weekend of the same year. Of course, that meant exchanging or re-keying every stinkin' lock on both bikes - including the ignition.

Much forking was done to get at the steering lock. When all was said and done, many I/S parts made their way onto the Tourer and vice versa.

My garage loosely resembled the photo above, but with a half-disassembled Valkyrie on either side.  crazy2
