« on: October 24, 2009, 09:57:39 AM »

My software/machine is corrupting the Winsock somewhere.

I have deleted a program one at a time in an attempt to find the culprit.

So far no luck.

I have XP Professional.

IE 8

Sunbelt Personal Firewall
Sunbelt Vipre, anti virus

Incredimail

Maxtor backup drives.

Router

Cable service

Any suggestions on where to  look?

Try running Spybot (it's a free download) to see if you have any nasties lurking there. Once you have got rid of them go to a command prompt and type "Netsh winsock reset" (without the quotes). The re-boot your machine and hopefully all will be well.

I just reboot & it fixes itself till whatever it is that trips it's trigger.

Have run Spybot several times already to no avail.

I'll keep playing and looking.

Thanks. Bro.

Try Malwarebytes anti-malware software.  It's free and you can download it here
