my sidestand spring bolt that holds on the kill switch unit and spring (not kickstand) broke inside the threads down below.  Does it thread in from the top down or bottom up?  There is no bottom side as looking from down under since bolt is broke about 1/2 way up into the threads of that heavy duty plate.  Unable to last night see up above that heavy duty plate but felt up there and seems to be something up there so hoping can get a small wrench up on top to unscrew that snapped off bolt.  I believe it is 6mm correct?  If only comes out from down on bottom, guess I will have to drill that snapped bolt off.

Do you have to go to mother Honda dealer to get that 5 dollar bolt or will any hardware store do? If at a hardware store, will make sure to get the most hardness bolt available so it does not break off again.  Yah, also need the spring so probably going to go to Honda dealership anyways,  but probably will not buy the entire kill switch harness that is also missing for another 30-40 bucks since not once have I shifted into 1st gear while kickstand down.

Do you all feel that the safety kill switch is essential or needed?

Oh yah,  also missing that 5-6 inch cable that moves that metal clip down below the middle of the gas tank when turning the key to unlatch the front part of the seat.  Can you get at that without removing the gas tank?  I turned the key down below finding that no movement in that front seat metal latch.

is part# 2 but guessing part# 18 is also needed correct if missing since somehow holds that cable in place correct?

is part# 6 and 4 but also missing entire 1,3, and 8 part number as well if doing the complete set.

I would remove the side stand mounting plate. Will be much easier to deal with.  Also, replace the switch, it's s standard safety feature and a good thing.

+1, Put the bike in a wheel chock so you can support it while the sidestand is off. Removing the sidestand plate will test your religion sometimes.  Wink

The FIRST time you spin the bike and break it and yourself because the kick stand was left down and dug into blacktop at whatever speed you will realize what a ...................... you were for trying to save a few $$$.

I just went through this very bolt broken in the same exact way yours is on my tourer. Contacted grumpy with a picture and he provided me the part #  which is 50536-MZ0-010 ,it's called a hook spring  bought it online for 7 bucks. I didn't remove the side stand plate just secured the bike on jack removed the actual kickstand bolt then the kickstand  , you'll then have room to access the top nut holding  the rest of the broken screw, remove the nut take a plier and twist up the tip of the remaining screw gently it should come right out. Then reverse the process to install the new one.
