Sherry and I were returning to Chatham on Saturday afternoon from the soggy Oysterfest in Wellfleet when it happened. We were stopped and waiting in line on Lecount Hollow Road in Wellfleet to make a left on to Route 6 west bound. We were hit from behind by a Chevy pick-up truck with a plow rig, but no plow, attached to the front of the truck. The top of the plow rig severely dented the left side of the CR-V hatch and the lower part of the rig dented/scratched the bumper in at least three places. Glad we weren't on the Valkyrie.

Nobody in either vehicle was injured. Law enforcement was not contacted and was thus never at the scene. The driver was apologetic and stated that he was having a conversation and was distracted. There was a woman in the truck with him.

It definitely sucked but given what's happened in Wine Country, California and the three terrible hurricanes this season, I'm trying to keep it in perspective. We'll get it fixed. It will probably be a hassle. But since we were rear-ended, with my insurance coverage I shouldn't have to pay the deductible.

Sorry for your troubles Tony.

The problem with no police report is the perpetrator could now call in and claim you backed into him and/or fled the scene of property damage and/or whip lashed his passenger (or whatever he thinks serves himself best).  And some ins co's won't pay diddly without a police report.

Course if you got good digi photos at the scene, they may prove it all, mostly.

Many years ago, I had a couple (very) small benders where we both didn't want to call the cops, and whoever was at fault paid like they said they would (once me, once them).  Some people can be honest and trustworthy, but it's hard to tell when you only have 15 minutes with them.

Sometimes in VA, if the accident is small with no injuries or major property damage, and there are no cops available, a report can be phoned in.  I think both parties talk.  Never done it myself.

Hopefully, you got his ID, plate, make & model, phone #, yada.  If your ins co pays for your damage, they are usually entitled to subrogate your rights as wronged party against the perpetrator's ins co, to get their money back.   (Unless you live in one of those terrible no-fault states, then God only knows how it works.)

PS:  I was on Cape Cod many years ago, and man I am really glad I was not rear ended.  There was a lot of that going on in Provincetown.   I got asked to dance there almost as often as in Key West.  Grin

Hey Jess. I got his name, address, phone number, license number, plate number, truck make/model and insurance company name. The guy was very apologetic and seemed sincere, so I hope he is. He was young, maybe late 20s and he seemed remorseful hitting what he probably thought was an old man.

Regarding Provincetown, yeah it's a Rainbow place. I've never been there without my wife and never been to a dance hall there.

 Cool

I hope it works out for you Tony.  All it takes is an honest man.

Yeah I didn't go onto any dance halls there either, but they kept asking (I was 20 something back then).   Grin

At first glimpse I thought the new odometer reading was bad luck. Fortunately bike was not involved and no injuries. Just the inconvenience involved now.

Good to hear you two are good. As an FYI, you can call an officer to the scene and have a police  report without getting Insurance involved (unless you need to)  I went through a similar situation. A young girl  rolled thru a stop sign and hit the rear quarter of my car. She only lived a few miles away and her father was there before the cops. We talked about having Daughters and fatherly issues and came upon an agreement to repair my car before the cops showed up. Once on scene I told the officer we would handle it ourselves without insurance.  That way I have a police report documenting it all just incase it went sour.

Also, with todays phones keep in mind a good way to document info is to take pictures of Them, their Registration and Drivers license and Plates of the car.

And again,,, glad you two are OK

Sorry about the accident Tony.   But at least it was someone not related to you!

I let Steven use our CRV about 10 weeks ago so that he could pick up Stacy at the hospital after an operation (their Jeeps are too lifted for her to get in).   He forgot it was there and then with his lifted pickup he back into the rear passenger door.   Even at 28, he is still causing me headaches.

I made him take care of it.  He got a door that matched, color an all and installed it.  You cannot even tell it ever happened which is good for him Wink
