Decided to service the bike today. Here in the Northeast we will be tucking them in soon for a long winters nap.
Had 7,000 miles on the oil and 14,000 total on the bike.
Honda recommends 8.000 on oil 15,00 on air filter & 16,000 on plugs. ?
A little early but next season she will be ready.
Changed oil & Filter
Rear drive oil
Spark Plugs
Air Cleaner Air cleaner was filthy at 14,000
Took a long time to do A/C but i checked every hose clamp and fastener especially the main ground in front of the battery. Glad it's done.
Approximate cost. $ 110.00
Oil filter 65.00 Amsoil friend is a distributor
Rear lube 5.00
A/F 20.00 E Bay
Plugs 20.00 Honda dealer

How hard was it to change the air filter? From what I understand it is a real pain in the ass as the gas tank has to be removed. Did it take long?

It takes me about 20 mins to take off all the stuff to remove the tank.

The plugs looked good. A bit dark which is ok with me since it shows its getting enough fuel vs lean. My fuel mileage avg around 45 mpg.
I could probably change air filter in 1 to 1/2 hrs now that ive done it. It was difficult to get the drain line (no clamp) and return to charcoal filter line ( pinch clamp). Difficult because even with the back of tank lifted there is not much room between tank and frame.
The air box has 7 screws and you need the tank off to access them.
Tried to post pictures but had difficulty.
Pics may be too large?

Maybe 10 to 15 minutes to remove everything. I do things a bit differently though, I dont remove all the pushpins around the radiator cover. I just remove the bottom one that holds it to the bike and the bottom one or two and rotate and slide the thing off the radiator. The tank is easy since they give you a quick disconnect on the fuel line and the other lines really pull off and push on. I find the fuel cap the biggest annoyance personally.
I used the Denso Iridium plugs and the rear drive oil while its not necessary I recommend using fully synthetic and do not overfill. In addition to the work you did I have drained and refilled the coolant and put in water wetter.

Thanks for the suggestion on the radiator shrouds,I'll try this next time. I'll do the coolant next season.
I bled the brakes and clutch last year and fluid in master cylinder is clean and almost looks like it's back lighted.
Seat of the pants, bike ran great after service work.

Posts like this are all too depressing
I cannot believe the riding season is almost over for me... It has been a great Autumn, but the temps will be dropping significantly by the weekend, and from here on we can start to see the ground freeze and that DREADED WHITE crap reappears!
Then 4 mos. of CRAP...with an ever slow return of the riding season, waiting for the roads to clear up...from a season of salt and gravel... It completely sucks living up here...the day I retire is the day I get the *uck out of here.
