There are so many chances you take on this road, you could have done everything correct and still Shocked Early into this clip see the near miss, nothing of interest after .18 seconds.

when i click on the link the video starts at 30 seconds in, I had to back it up to see the close call at 18 seconds and the guy turn and give chase.  wonder if he ever caught him.

I have ridden it a couple of times only because some of our friends wanted to ride it and don't attempt it on a weekend or holiday.  All the crazies that think it will never happen to them are out then.  Almost had to change my shorts when a crotch rocket passed me on the yellow line in a curve.  My advice would be to pick most any other road up there.  The Cherohala Skyway can be dangerous too.  Try this one, it isn't as crowded and the Shady Valley store halfway is a nice little stop.  Just North of the store is the backbone rock.  Also the road to nowhere near Bryson City is an interesting story of unfulfilled promises.

Go on Google maps and adjust your view level to pick up the little roads. With a little planning you can come up with a 250 mile route with non-stop curves, hills and twisties in that area. Pretty much to yourself. I was up there a couple weeks ago for 4 days. We never went close to the place. Been there, done that and got the Tee shirt.  Too many other good roads to ride.
