Thought I had posted this....

Here is my tale. I have asked about this over on the trike forum and had a lot of good help, but I would like to hear from Valk guys, just lookong for personal experience.

My triked Valk already has a 6Deg rake kit, but I have bought a VTX-treme 8Deg one to replace it. I also have fitted a tyre that is a 150/70 as compared to my old 150/80, which lowers the trike's front. The 8Deg TT will lower it even further.

I assumed that would be all OK, as I could extend the forks. I have a couple of extensions on approval, made by VTX-treme. They only work internally, apprently pushing the forks out further, and I am concerned that this puts extra strain on the forks' system, especially on a trike.

So my questions:
- do the VTX-treme extensions alter the forks and suspension the way I fear? Has anyone had any experience?
- is there an alternative? On the trike forum we came to the situation that because the fork diameter changes, it is difficult at best to use a tube to lower them in the triple tree. I wondered about getting something extendy  machined up and shimming the lower arm of the tree, but that does not address strength issues and Honda probably increased the fiameter for a reason Roll Eyes.

Appreciate any help
- Can I even use the VTX-tyreme 8 deg with the standard fork top, with the nut cap?

I read your post & replies on TrikeTalk, but didn't quite follow what all was being said, so didn't respond.  Sorry about that.  I had a triked I/S with Daryl's 8 degree rake w/ fork extensions.  (I think 1 1/2")  I rebuilt the forks at the time.  Put over 60K miles on it before I sold it.  No issues with the forks.  If you have a raked tree from another source, I don't know if his extensions will work, but they will definitely work with his tree.  FWIW the conversion I had was a long wheel base -- ~8" over stock.  Stan

OK. Thanks for that, seriously. Word of experience Cool

EDIT: Ah. Sorry, just read your post on triketalk. So your extenders are the ones I have and they work. OK.

So am I right in assuming that I have to force the forks down to put the normal cap onto the top of them, using the style of  extensions that I have....I assume you had the sort I have asked about....not an extension tube but an internal fitting.

So the extension seats into where the cap used to meet the locknut, then the cap screws down onto te top of the extensions and then the cap is forced down until it again screws into the large diameter thread at the top of the fork, as it did before the extensions were there?

Nick --- Can we go back to the beginning?  1)  Are we working with the raked tree from VTX treme?

If YES, then YES to the following:  "....I assume you had the sort I have asked about....not an extension tube but an internal fitting."

"So the extension seats into where the cap used to meet the locknut, then the cap screws down onto te top of the extensions and then the cap is forced down until it again screws into the large diameter thread at the top of the fork, as it did before the extensions were there?"

If NO then I don't know how to answer your questions.  I will get hold of Daryl & see if he has any diagram or instruction sheet for the extensions.  What is the date/time where you are?  Stan

OK.  No diagrams.  He says those internal extension WILL work with any Valk tree.  8 degree rake he recommends 2" extensions.  His email is:
contacD@xf6custom.com  phone: 256-543-3997  Shoot him an email.  He said he can call you if necessary.  Really good guy & will help in any way he can.  Stan

Back....reason I am not sure about the forks is I do not have them. They are in the shop being rebuilt....and I forgot to ask for All Balls seals, (bad) because the shop boss had pre-empted and already ordered the parts (good in a way and he meant well)...oh well next time (I hope not for a while)
