Alternator remove and replace
«

Just want to give a shout out to everyone on this board. I replaced the alternator on my standard the other night and if it wasn't for the info gained from this board, I would have believed that it couldn't be done without pulling the motor !
It was a struggle (2hrs to remove) and about 5 minutes to put the new one in - go figure. I also took John Schmidt's advise and used a touch of silicone to hold the upper rubber blocks in place on the install.
Thanks Again
Lyle...

2 hrs to remove? Wow, Ive heard of 2 days (and longer), but not much problems for pulling.
To put it back in, do you recollect in what position the X was in (horizontal/vertical or just somewhere?)

My first time was similar. gordonv your idea is the solution to easy installation. I couldn't believe the alternator was ever in the place I was trying to install it until I thought about the tilting and turning that removed it. It falls into place if you can reverse the removal motions.

As soon as it finally in position to come out, I just stopped and had a good look at the angle it was at and remembered it for the install.
