Hi guys,
For last 6 years I've been riding Royal star Venture but always had my eyes on Interstate. Problem was there was none in my country (Croatia), and importing it was too expensive. Luckily about a year ago I got info about one Interstate on market!

of course now It's mine  Grin (the only one in Croatia)

one q: (probably first of many to come)
is it normal for bike to be a little lazy in low rpm while it's still cold, 1000-1500 rpm?
 it idles around 900.

900 rpm is a good idle.

Maybe you need to add some carburetor cleaner for a few tanks of petrol?

That is not many miles for a bike that old.

Don't forget to check the manufacturer date for the tires. Maybe they are too old and need to be changed for new?

If you have B-12 Chemtool over there run some thru your machine. I have a 99 I/S in Green and silver/pewter that turned 125000 MILES yesterday on the way home from a P G R Mission. 4000 miles-she's Almost a virgin!  Roll Eyes Welcome from the Missouri Ozarks U S of A.  cooldude And if you think she will be laid up for awhile  put some Marine Stabil in the fuel before you fill up so it will get mixed and dispersed. Again-WELCOME. RIDE SAFE.

My bikes tend to idle at 900 (by the book idle), when cold or even just warmed up, but idle at 1k when hot.

I like a 1K idle to keep up charging, but if you set idle when cold or just warmed up, it will be higher when hot.

Screwing with idle when hot burns fingers and hands (not using a tool).  I wish they didn't hide the knob so far in.

Congratulations and welcome to the club.

The day you took responsibility of your Valk, was the first day of a great journey and relationship.

If you can figure out how to post pictures, we'd love to see your Valk and the country side of your home area.

I bought my low mileage 2000 Valk earlier this year and it was lazy at low RPM until I had put some miles on her and got he carbs cleaned out. And welcome from Ontario Canada.

It's probably the 4000 original miles, bike needs to be ridden. After mine sits for a while, the idling is *lazy,* even anemic.

Well you've gotten some replies and can see what to expect on the VRCC site. Great group of fellow Valk riders and very knowledgeable.  uglystupid2 I have an IS as well and she is a smooth idle at 900 but with 45k on her she isn't sluggish at all.  Evil I agree its probably the low miles causing the problems. Follow the instruction you've seen here and you will be pleased with the results.
Oh, and welcome to the VRCC. coolsmiley

Congrats on the new buy, the I/S is one of the best (if not the best!) cruisers ever made.

Considering the low miles of the bike (probably was sitting most of its life), I would have a look into changing the coolant (an easy job, 30 minutes tops) and maybe the final drive oil too (another 20 minutes).

For coolant, the recommended one is the Honda coolant (good for 5 years or 40K miles):
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0089LSFJ0/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1

For final drive, people either use the Honda or the Mobil 1 (full synthetic):
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0039OO56Y/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000ONZXPK/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Another thing to inspect would be the battery (is it old?) and maybe have a look if the final drive splines are properly lubed with the recommended Honda Moli paste.

I think you are wrong with the above statement, any Valkyrie that is almost 20 years old, untouched, and with only 4000 miles is definitely special.

Welcome to The Forum. Beautiful bike. It doesn't look completely stock because there's something after market on your left handlebar - what is that a cruise control?

It's a registration sticker like we have them on our license plates.
In Europe all vehicles are subject to rigorous technical inspection every year for registration. There is no riding on bald tires, signal lights, less than perfect brakes, open exhaust, etc.
They also can't drive cars without doors, fenders or hoods like we see some people here

and now they started to ban aftermarket parts that didn't pass inspection... every part we put on a bike that's not stock has to pass inspection. (of course you have to pay inspection, and it's not cheap)
