thoughts, ideas??

price is reasonable I think and looks nice, at least in the pics.

https://www.amazon.com/Luggage-97-03-Honda-Valkyrie-GL1500/dp/B008VJZ8QS/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1511108610&sr=8-1&keywords=honda+valkyrie+luggage+rack

I have to add some finishing touches  of missing chrome to my newly acquired 1998 Valk tourer.  Only chrome piece missing on each side otherwise is need a chrome oil cap for 15 bucks since the black one sticks out like a sore thumb vs. all that chrome bling.   I should add a chrome clutch reservoir cover as well since the right side front brake reservoir has one covering it up and maybe a chrome neck cover in front of the gas tank but chrome bling does not make it run any faster, or so they say.  2funny  Oh yah I forgot, I think they made chrome clip on round boots that cover up the black rings above the 6 carb intakes right below the gas tank (3 on each side).  Anyone have a lead on where to get those as well?

Why some owner (or owners) prior would add all those expensive chrome side pieces covering the entire sides up with chrome and not buy a chrome 15 dollar oil filler cap is puzzling?  he must have run out of money?  2funny

Probably should buy a shinier chrome radiator cover as well since the show chrome thin grid pattern one is showing its age after 25 years and does not offer much in terms of shiny chrome looks.  Grin

I have never seen that before.

But the flat design looks a lot like Custom World International luggage racks from Quebec CA.  I put one on a Yamaha.  Gear really sits better on a flat rack.

I had this one.  Spendy.  $216

This is CWI's for the valk.

I had that rack on one of the bikes I sold. It looked and fit well. I will look and see if I have a chrome oil fill cap in stock on Monday. I have the chrome covers and the cover in front of the fuel tank in stock. I also have the chrome risers .

I took the chrome one off my bike and gave it to someone... I like the rubber
one. I got rid of the chrome dipstick that was on there too...

Cookie I have that one on my Silver Bullet.  Good fit and build quality, chrome looks good.   Got mine for considerably less, if I remember around $39 free ship on FleaBay.

Got that one ... only thing I didn't like was the plate for mounting was added on (welded) instead of a continuous piece. Hard to tell but look close at the piece with mounting holes. Look at the one on the far side and you can see the weld line. Not much over lap. 1/4" maybe.

no rush on finding it since just put up today both Valks under cover in my garage a few hours ago, no more riding until near april 1st for me....   Cry

just thinking of stuff to put on for the spring during these 3-4 months of winter doldrum....

If can get the chrome oil filler cap for under 15 bucks is a good deal.  and yes, I have the heavier chrome oil filler dipstick and compared it to my black plastic OEM one on other valk and is longer by near 1 cm in length so when changing oil a few weeks ago I put in my stock black one on my other Valk I/S to compare and get the right amount of oil since used rotella t6 in the gallon jug hard to get it right the first time without measuring since not 1 qt. bottles anymore using.

I cannot wait until spring when have 2 valks to ride, a black pretty much bone stock I/S and a LOUD cobra exhaust car tire chromed out 98 blue/cream valk tourer.  I got a national cycle windshield made for a vtx1800 and just got done ordering the Q103 mounts should be here this week but will probably wait until spring to put the shield on since tight fit putting up both valks in std. 2 car garage today will sit there until springtime.

... but chrome bling does not make it run any faster, or so they say.
Keeping the thread family-safe: It's true; chrome won't get ya home...but it will get you a date.

Those would be from Rattlebars. I don't think he's in the business of producing motorcycle parts any longer. Sad...Chet was a class act.

Why would some owners powdercoat all the existing chrome (cam belt cover, cylinder head covers, engine guards, etc.)?

"Contrast".

Too bad Dave's Bar Grille is no longer available - but there's always the Classifieds for such.

This is why God/Dog/(insert_other_favorite_deity_here) invented the sport-tourer and the adventure bike. Snow problem riding in winter with heated clothing. No chrome whatsoever to worry about, either.

I reverse that position and wrench my stuff in the summertime. Primarily, my winter bikes...always coming up with something else to do to them. Lack of heat in the garage constrains my wrench time.

Back to your original post: If you can find one, Jardine used to make a nifty quick release backrest/rack combination known as a "Paladin".

I have that one on my 2001.  I picked it up for less on $bay.  I am very happy with it.  Looks great behind the studded Mustang seat.

I bought one that looks exactly like that for under $50 shipped:

https://www.ebay.com/itm/USED-Luggage-Rack-for-Honda-Valkyrie-GL1500-OEM-Sissy-Bars/401444406047?hash=item5d77f3831f:g:zScAAOSwepJXbHcx&vxp=mtr

Even though it says "used" it was new.  But ... the distance between the mounting tabs was almost 1/4" narrower than the outside of the stock backrest brackets on the bike, so to straddle the brackets and use the same two mounting holes on each side I had to unbolt the brackets from the fender struts (I was removing the struts anyway to replace the shocks) and put a couple of washers between the rear strut mount and the bracket so the brackets would angle in toward the rear and be closer to each other, which also matched the angle of the luggage rack mounting tabs.  A lot of work ... I probably should have returned the rack for a refund ...

chrome clip on round boots that cover up the black rings

Some of the nicest chromed out Valkyries I know of have
used the chrome plumbing parts from Lowes there... I guess
you have to cut the end you can't see... low cost...

I avoid extra chrome covers and stuff like that because I think
it makes the bikes harder to work on.

Clean chromed-out Valkyries can look really good though...
