I've found the NGKs to be in that range out of the box.

I found the gap in shop talk to be 31 to 35 thousands. I started out to change the timing belts this morning and found all my intakes leaking at the o rings. The kury covers had kept all this hidden. So I got new orings this afternoon. Then I decided to to (check) or adjust the valves while I had the bike on the jack. This lady has 111k on her and I thought I'ld better spend some quality time and money on her to make her feel special. It always seem to work on the wife.

Mr. Bubbles, if your wife is computer literate you are in deep.
Now, regarding spark plug gap, if you run irridium plugs you can open the gap to .36 to .38 without a problem. I found that .40 is a bit too much. I think I felt a miss at high speed or WOT.
