Bill, saw you messed up your achilles.....OUCH! Been there, done that almost 50 yrs. ago, have the incision scar for my troubles. Tore mine completely in half playing basketball at the local grade school, sucker popped like a balloon. I went down, intense pain....and instant nausea big time. Emergency room dr. ran his fingers up the back of my ankle, found where it was separated and pressed a little saying "ah yes, there it is." I didn't hear him 'cuz I passed out from the pain. They operated and sewed it back together, said my calf muscle was rolled up like a window shade. Happened Memorial Day, spent the Summer with first a cast on the lower leg, then a brace for the lower leg and riveted to my left shoe. I decided to use the GI Bill and go for another degree at Rollins but they priced themselves out of the market that Fall so went to what's now UCF. Got a second major in Education plus most of a Masters, not enough $$ to finish. The parking at the time meant I would have to walk a couple blocks to the bldg. most of my classes were in, so each session following when I registered I wore my leg brace and got special parking permits, putting me across the street from the bldg. When I quit in '73, I sold the brace and the pair of shoes it was mounted on to a classmate, gave me $200 for it. A year later he sold it again. Often wondered how many people benefited from my old leg/foot brace. They ought to put it in a trophy case out there.

Mine was caused by a muscle spasm, calf muscle contracted into a knot ( like a real bad charlie horse) It stayed like that for a couple min and pulled the tendon real bad. So far ice packs and walking around with a cane. going back to the Doc Monday and see if any thing else needs to be done.

muscle spasms, caused by improper balance of calcium to magnesium to potassium. usually magnesium is too low and too much calcium. if your doctor doesn't know this, find another one. 95-98% of heart attacks (also muscle weakness) are caused by low mag levels. the heart can't function without. a mag drip is always given to heart attack victims in emergency room, yet they don't tell the person to increase their mag levels once they leave the hospital. hmmm I wonder why? www.mgwater.com based on Dr Mildred Seeligs book and work.

I've had bad (scarred, calcified) Achilles tendons most of my life. But never tore one, much to the Dr's amazement. They get sore on hard use, and when on my feet all day. Better since retirement, but back now with (most of the day) fall leaf cleanups. Never let the Dr use his little rubber hammer to check my reflexes (which are just fine). This device has done wonders for my Achilles tendons (personal ultrasound). It does not work as well for other soft tissue sore spots on the body that are buried beneath hard bone and body mass (like the knee or shoulder), but the Achilles are right under the skin. Bit of a PITA finding the time (and patience) to sit in my lazy boy with bent knees with a towel under my bent leg (so the ultrasound gel doesn't get on the chair) to spend 10 minutes (running it on each Achilles, supposed to be 3 times each, daily), but the results are simply amazing. It does not just treat the symptoms, it heals the damaged tendons. It looks cheapo, and you feel no heat or vibration (supposed to keep it in motion at all times), and it makes no noise, but it is working. Must be used with conductive gel. I got it on Amazon, but don't find it there today. I did notice there are other similar products now available, but can't speak to any. Crap, it says the original plug-in unit (w. 12 volt converter) is sold out (in favor of their new rechargeable). http://www.sonicrelief.com/When the little bit of gel that comes with the unit ran out, I bought this: https://www.amazon.com/Parker-W60692L-Aquasonic-Ultrasound-Litre/dp/B00GYRBM2S PS: I agree with the magnesium supplement.

Ditto on lack of Potassium.....didn't know about the Magnesium part. I eat a banana a day for potassium. If I don't, within a few days I get muscle problems.

Doc says some of my meds are causing it, mainly Hydrochlorothiazide for high blood pressure, dehydrates the body and causing the muscle spasms. took me off it, and trying a different prescription. Sucks right now, hobbling around and lots of pain.

It will be a slow heal Bill. I pulled mine a year ago in the spring. It still comes back to haunt me if I'm not real careful.

consider taking systemic enzymes. they remove the fibrin in the kidneys, helping to lower BP. http://www.systemicenzymes.net/articles/fibrosis.htmlAspirin, Ibuprofen, Celebrex, Vioxx and the rest of the Non Steroidal Anti Inflammatory Drugs all work by keeping the body from making all CIC's. This ignores the fact that some CIC’s are vital to life, like those that maintain the lining of the intestine and those that keep the kidneys functioning! Not to mention the fact that the NSAID’s, along with acetaminophen, are highly toxic to the liver. Every year 20,000 Americans die from these over the counter drugs and another 100,000 will wind up in the hospital with liver damage, kidney damage or bleeding intestines from the side effects of these drugs. (4,5). Systemic enzymes on the other hand are perfectly safe and free of dangerous side effects. They have no LD-50, or toxic dose. (6). Best of all systemic enzymes can tell the difference between the good CIC’s and the bad ones because hydrolytic enzymes are lock and key mechanisms and their "teeth" will only fit over the bad CIC’s. So instead of preventing the creation of all CIC’s, systemic enzymes just “eat” the bad ones and in so doing lower inflammation everywhere. With that, pain is lowered also. http://www.systemicenzymes.net/index.html
