The laundry room has one of those white plastic covered wire shelves mounted above the washer/dryer. About 2-3 days ago Rita wanted me to remove about ten flower vases we had collected over the years and had them stored on that shelf, along with enough gift wrapping and bags for a Macy's 50% off sale. I removed the vases and tossed them....all glass, in the trash. Yesterday afternoon I was chasing a lizard along the ceiling, snapped it with a towel and it fell behind the washer. I leaned in to see if my aim was good, no lizard so I stood up before moving out from under that shelf. I caught the front edge of the shelf with my head which lifted it abruptly, snapping about a dozen 35 yr. old plastic clips holding it in place. Down it came, dumping everything on the floor with a resounding crash. I didn't know Rita could still move that fast!

She came out from the bedroom pushing her four wheel rickshaw and it was about 40-11 OMG's in a row. I'm soooo glad I had removed all but a couple of those glass vases about two days prior. I made a trip to Home Depot and picked up a batch of new clips, only these are metal and come furnished with screws and inserts for mounting on plasterboard. After removing all the debris, I found who ever installed it did so by just screwing into the plasterboard, not into the studs. I got out my stud finder and after adjusting it so it didn't keep pointing back at me

I located all the studs needed and used them for mounting, and it's actually level....surprised me too! That sucker will be up there long after we're gone, still have to spackle over the old holes and then paint. I'm thinking maybe I should do the same thing with the self on the opposite wall, it's got some really heavy crap up there. Strangely enough, on either shelf....none of the junk is mine. How can that be?!?

The REALLY amazing part of all this(per my wife), I actually started and finished a project in one afternoon.....let alone in one day, and it was level. Told her if she's going to continue with her verbal abuse I was going to remove just one wheel on her rickshaw.
