Tucson - Its a dry heat

« on: December 17, 2017, 07:01:09 PM »

Almost.

On my 1000 mile Fly and ride Honda's recent re-location (after about 50 years of tradition - IIRC my 1968 CB350...) of the horn/turn drove me nuts.

Looked around for a similar situation - seems the CB1100 forum fights the same battle - the 2014+ CB1100's are like ours - but the  2013 CB1100 had them "normal".  Unfortunately for us, the CB1100 has 7/8" bars - and ours are 1 "  Sad.

Hunted around on ebay, and there are not many 1" bars on Jap bikes - except Honda Legacy Valk, VTX, VT1100, and a couple others.  But the turn signal switch is a cast aluminum monster about the size of your fist.  And one other - a Yamaha VV1900, but the lettering and style don't match the Valk.

Taking the 2014 Valk switch apart, it was obvious the parts could not be interchanged back to "normal" - not enough room on the bottom part of the housing for the turn signal switch.  But in my Legacy Valk stash I had an extra turn switch - pulled it apart... spent a couple hours with files and a dremel.. YES! The Legacy Valk turn and horn switch will fit into the 2014+Valk lower housing, and the upper part still keeps the 2014 Valk Lo-Hi Switch.

Still have to make the slider... the paper template is held in place with tivet standoff, and make a final slider.

Then need to find someone who can 3D print a recessed filler to fill the void behind the new turn signal switch - any takers???

So does the 1500 Valk housing work as a swap? So you just did not want chrome or it is to big?

Yes, the Legacy Valk housing, with wiring, will work.
It is actually about 1/4" less diameter overall (per the pic), but it is about 1/4" wider, because of the allowance for the choke.
It looks more massive, because it is a lot more boxy looking.  Although powder coating it black does help.  It looks smaller in the picture because they are not the sa

It will however, need some trickery on the headlight switch. The Legacy Valk switch is low or high, make before break.

However, the 2014+ Valk LED light is low, and then low AND high.  Would need a latching relay, or something similar, to hold the low beam power on when switched to high.  It is doable.

It MIGHT be possible to trim the 2014 Valk headlight switch to fit in the Legacy Valk housing - in checking just now, it doesn't fit by slightly less than the amount the Legacy Valk turn signal switch did not fit the 2014 Valk housing... 2funny

Both means would also require some cutting/soldering/heatshrinking wiring.

I for sure was confused with the 2014 Valk switch as well going back and forth between bikes but I guess I did not mess up all that much.  I’m sure some wondered why I was honking, and that is an awesome horn on the 14 Valk! I would like to put 2014 clutch and brake fluid reservoirs on one of my 1500s as number one, they are hidden under the chrome covers and are in pitted shape and 2, I want black.

Mitch,

I think I'm going to yield the title of "He Who Takes On The Impossible" to you.   Wink

Thanks!  That takes a lot of weight off my shoulders; it is a tough reputation to live up to.
