I was installing new Kuryakyn grips, the clutch side went on perfectly but the throttle side seized 1-1/2” short. Tried to get it to go the rest of the way and broke the throttle tube. I guess I’ll be ordering new ones on Monday and try again, hopefully with better luck.

You'll discover you cannot just buy the throttle SLEEVE you need.  It's the whole assembly or nothing with Honda (as I recall).

This is exactly the reason I never use grip or super glue or anything that only gives 1.75 seconds before it hardens up on my ISO grips.  Instead, I use (a lot of) RTV clear silicone sealant with more inside the Kury ISO grip than on the handlebars, because you can take all the time in the world to get them put where you want them (and clean up the mess), and have to allow 24 hours for it to harden up.  The downside is the throttle grip begins to move a little on the sleeve after a year or so, so has to be reglued from time to time, but no big deal.  Unlike fighting with super glue (to try and save parts) the silicone sealant hardens like rubber and can be defeated without a war.

Ideally, you know, with the ISO grips, you want a row of rubbers under your palm and the other row under your finger tips, and you want both sides to match up in position.  Absolutely not necessary with the stock grips.  IE, you need more time than grip glue allows with ISO grips, unless you get lucky.

Also, as clearance between bar and grip is close, there is almost always a bead of glue built up on top the grip as you slide it up to the control housing above the grip, so you like to stop and wipe it off before pushing it home, lest you glue the grip to the control housing so it will not turn at all.  No stopping with grip or super glue.  Easy peazy with silicone. (doesn't matter much on the other side)

Now, since the throttle sleeve (or part of it) is glued into the throttle grip, do you have to order a new pair of grips too? (they don't sell singles) Or can you salvage that grip?

Sometimes finding the right schematic on OE parts is tricky.  It's not under handlebars, it's under switch and cable.  I think you need a #8.

A lot of aftermarket grips on eBay come with a throttle tube and are very inexpensive. Worth a look.

Next time try flushing with copius amounts of rubbing alcohol to remove grips. Slip a thin screw driver under either end of the grip and squirt it in at 3-4 spots. Anytime you want to move rubber on metal or plastic or what have you, use plain old alky. When in place the alky will evaporate and leave no residue, then squirt the grip glue in as described above.

The alcohol even works when moving rubber against rubber, then evaporates.

Air compressor with a small nozzle works extremely well for removing grips

Grip sleeve and switch assembly is what you will have to order if you order new OEM

I sed the sleeve from a VT1100 Shadow when I installed my ISO grips because the boss for the cable was damaged.  I had the VT1100 Sleeve on my shelf from my old bike.
You can order it seperately from Honda.  you will need to modify it though  I believe, if I remember correctly, I had to cut the threaded end off to make it work.

Been there, done that!
No matter how fast you work, the darn grip cannot be slid into place before the glue sets up.  The Scotts (I think?) Grip Glue was the worst.

Somebody (I forget who, sorry) makes 3 minute superglue type of product.  Clear, slide in place, with the glue acting as a lube, then hold for a couple minutes.  Perfect.

Unfortunately, I'm at work - and even if I was home, I'm in the middle of a big garage clean-up - and I have not seen my container since I used it last - maybe a year ago.  But it comes in a 2 or 3 oz container, maybe 3" tall.

Good luck!

Old fashion Elmers Glue bottle with brush cap. Same stuff we used pasting those unidentifiable pieces of construction paper to poster board or the Kindergarten wall works just fine. Dries at a moderate rate (depending on ambient temperature) lasts for a year or more, cleans easily, and grip can be glued again and again.

I've got some slow setting super glue, can't remember where I got it but it takes about 30 seconds for it to set up.

Scots grip glue will let you slide it right on like it was lubed and sets up up in a few minutes.

Use golf grip tape.  Wrap it and soak with mineral spirits, grip will go on like butter.  Allow MS to fully evaporate before riding.

Go to a Hobby Store and pick up a bottle of ZAP or similar.  they come in a fast and a slow curing type.  It is a Cyanoacrylite glue so a superglue.  Works awesome and gives enough time to install.
