As old age has creeped up and with a bad hip and leg, (thanks to charlie) I can't hold my bike up if it leans to the left. I have seen what looks like training wheels on bikes at Myrtle Beach and at the Hoot. I wasn't thinking I would need a set this soon and didn't look very close how they were made. I don't want a trike conversion. Being on a fixed income, I want to build something so I can start rideing again. Any help will be appreciated. Tks Rick

If you're not wanting a conversion, the other option ( while I'm not a fan of it ) is the voyager kit. Can put on and take off in minutes they say. Your rear wheel stays on.

If you go with a Voyager or similar unit, you may want to check with your state's DMV. According to Texas DPS, they are illegal in Texas. Whether or not that is enforced, I have no idea.

I think this is what he is talking about:
I believe the factory in New Orleans was destroyed during Katrina, I have not heard of anything comparable. Whoops, just found this one: http://www.landingear.com/home.phpThey are pricey at about $3500 uninstalled!

I've never heard that. Actually, I rode my buddy's Goldwing w/Voyager kit to the DPS here in Lubbock so he could take his drivers test for his motorcycle license. They never mentioned anything about it being illegal.

Bugs, Like I said, not sure how much this will be enforced, but according to the guy who is in charge of motorcycle stuff in Texas, since it makes the vehicle have 4 wheels, it can not, by state law, be a 'motorcycle', and it is not classified as a car by any manufacturer. I would guess that DPS will not be pressing the issue, but some insurance companies may very well press it to deny claims, etc. Most won't, but when big bucks are involved...who knows?

I learned something new today.... You are absolutely correct. Texas DPS ..... Texas Motorcycle Laws......... Chapter 5http://www.txdps.state.tx.us/msb/documents/TexasMotorcycleLaws08.pdf"Motorcycle" means a motor vehicle designed to propel itself with not more than three wheels in contact with the ground, and having a saddle for the use of the rider. The term does not include a tractor or a three-wheeled vehicle equipped with a cab seat and seat belt and designed to contain the operator in the cab..." Who woulda thunk it?

Friend rides a valk with the Voyager kit. The side tires only touch on corners and at rest. He does not ride with 4 wheels touching. Maybe that is how you can beat the law, by not having the 2 side tires toucing all the time. I know I have seen others that the 2 side tires are in constant contact and the center wheel is nearly bald because of lack of contact.

Voyager has a "preload" meaning there is a specified weight on the outside wheels at all times. A friend of mine has the kit, it was installed on a VTX and set up wrong. When the outside wheels would touch it would pull him in that direction. A couple hours of riding and he was beat from fighting it. He went to a Valk trike and loves it. He still has the Voyager kit and I am sure he would sell it cheap, you could make a mounting kit to save yourself some money. PM me and I will set you up with him if you are intrested,, it is in MN. It is the kit with the full size wheels not the 8" ones.

Interesting...especially since the motorcycle cops in Pittsburgh,PA use these (or a similar brand) on their Harley's in the winter time. They ride year round...even in the ice and snow.
