Now that the Valkyrie is getting older, it seems to me that several maintenance issues are occuring at more or less the same time. Pending on several other factors as well, of course.
Besides normal wear & tear and known issues from the Shoptalk page.
I noticed that over time, the following issues have occured:

Rubber (vacuum) tubes deteriorating
Starter button corroding
Fuel valves (hydroleaks)
Faulty alternators
Some U joints have given up   
Front forks 

I know that in generally wet riding conditions, the sidestand switch is a also tricky one and not of the best design. We've had a lot of those failing in the EU recently.  And then the bike will not start, of course.

I just wonder, is there anybody out there, perhaps BigBF, who can give me some advice what parts to take a closer look at when I'm doing routine maintenance.
Or someone who has made up some type of list or statistic which problems have occured at what time.
Would be interesting and helpful to know  Smiley

So many variables in riding style, environment, performed maintenance, etc, to plot what parts are going to go and when.

I feel the OEM service manual is probably the best guide to use for maintenance scheduling.

The only addition I can think of, is to check the drive systems in closer detail every 10k or rear tire change.

Then there the old "If it ain't broke, don't fix it" attitude and that seems to work for some. Smiley

Routine maintenance to include lubing the throttle cables , check carb linkage and lube sparingly the pivot points. The rear end service is a mist. Check the swing arm bearings when doing the rear end or replacing a tire. The fork (triple tree ) bearings should be checked . Do not use a pressure washer to clean. It blows the grease out of the bearings and lube points.
  Beer , we were in the Netherlands a couple years ago. It was a spur of the moment trip while visiting our granddaughter in Germany. We went to a Christmas market. Had I known sooner , I would have tried contacting you.
