Scarry noise

Did about 70 miles with new timing belts, about 5 to 10 miles at a time with no issues. Today I heard some noises reminding me of an old F250 recovered from Michigan Lake with a snow plow I bought in 2000 for $350. I ran it with a 5 gallon plastic gas can behind the cabin, a hose and a $8 12V gas pump controlled by a toggle switch hanging on the steering column. Used it 8 winters, sometimes commuting 28 miles and the cooling fan was always making the noise I heard from my Valkyrie today. Back to the Valkyrie, I used a digital luggage scale to set the timing belts tension, idler pensioning roller felt good and I cleaned them up but is no lube option, understandable; don't want any oil/grease flying in that area. I cannot think of any other source for the noise. Any diagnose procedure recommendation please?  :-\

mello dude

Maybe run it until you hear the noise, then pull the front cover off and take a look.

You probably have the belts set too tight. Just let those little springs set the tension, that's what they are there for. Even if you try the measurement procedure as described in the shop guide it's easy to get them too tight.

Quince

Right. I installed new springs but I did add more tension. Thanks.

Quince

Took the cover off. Indeed, just by feel tension is high. Didn't run it yet. It could be that when engine worms up tension increases and this belts do not stretch. I'll drop it to the spring settings and double check deflection...but...just realized manual says only one of the cover bolts need SEALANT. HUUU? That definitely is not loctite. Is it that Hylomar Blue and where do you add that, threads, bolt head, rubber seal area?

I've never added sealant to the indicated bolt. I do have one tensioner bolt that needs sealant. I kinda think that's the bolt they tried to describe but it doesn't matter. Don't worry bout that sealant
